The NBA is broken up into two conferences each of which have three divisions. In the first part of our guide to the new NBA season we will look at the value in these markets.
Let us talk about those briefly the two one sided markets. The Heat should have no problems winning the SouthEast though 1/33 (WINNER/YOU WIN) will not get you rich. Nor will the 3/19 (888 SPORT/unibet) on the Thunder winning the NorthWest.
The best bet in the divisional markets has to be San Antonio to win the SouthWest. While the Rockets caught the headlines in signing Dwight Howard it will take them a while to gel as a unit and they still have to make up 13 regular season wins on the Spurs last season. San Antonio will come out firing after a heartbreak in the NBA finals and the price of 7/5 (888 SPORT/unibet) looks great value on them to see off the Rockets and the ever reliable Memphis Grizzlies.
The Central division looks like being the most tightly fought as Chicago and Indiana do battle. The Bulls are the evens (GENERAL) favourites while the Pacers are 6/5 (william hill/YOU WIN). Chicago will be a much improved side for the return Derrick Rose and on the rare occassions that Rose, Deng, Noah and Boozer have played together the Bulls have an astonishing 85% win ratio. Indiana though are no mugs they came so close to beating Miami in the Eastern Conference finals last season and the return of Danny Granger and the additions of Luis Scola, CJ Watson and Chris Copeland make the side look very deep.
Another competitive division is the pacific which could have an interesting battle between the LA Clippers (4/7-william hill) and the Golden State Warriors (39/19-888 SPORT/unibet). Golden State have added well over the summer putting Andre Iguodala into a side that went deep in the play-offs last season. Coach Mark Jackson knows his side well and his younger players should improve. The Clippers are a very good side with a new coach and top talent just at these prices Golden State represent the value bet.
The Brooklyn Nets are the 13/19 (888 SPORT/unibet) favourites to win the Atlantic division after an exciting summer that has seen them recruit Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to play alongside Brook Lopez and Joe Johnson. Though with a side that has so many new players, many of whom are the wrong side of 30 and with a rookie coach in Jason Kidd it might take them a while to hit the ground running. It is 7/4 (william hill/ YOU WIN) on the Knicks to win the division though again this is is a side that also depends heavily on players the wrong side of their career. Those looking for a little play at a bigger price might want to consider Toronto at 29/1 (888 SPORT/UNIBET). The Raptors are clearly the weaker of the three sides but did register 34 wins last season and could hit the ground running while the others take time to find their feet.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: San Antonio Spurs to win the Southwest divison, 7/5 (888 SPORT/UNIBET)
SILVER: Golden State Warriors to win the pacific division, 39/19 (888 SPORT/UNIBET)
BRONZE: Toronto Raptors to win the Atlantic division, 29/1 (888 SPORT/UNIBET)
