League 2

Both Burton Albion and Shrewsbury Town will be the first two clubs to be promoted from League Two this season should the former beat Carlisle at home and the Shrews get the better of fourth placed Bury away tonight. Should Burton fail to win tomorrow, they could be usurped at the top of the table by Shrewsbury and could see the gap between themselves and third placed Wycombe close to four points. They would then need to secure a victory over Morecambe on Saturday to claim an automatic promotion place.

Despite having both Mansfield and Hartlepool separating themselves from Tranmere and Cheltenham in the relegation zone, Carlisle are not yet safe and could still occupy one of the final two positions come the end of the season. A surprise victory over the league leaders could see Keith Curle`s side go nine points clear of the dreaded drop zone, whilst failing to pick up all three points away from home could see them fall below Mansfield. By the end of the day they may just sit three points above Tranmere should results go against them.

It was Burton who ran out the winners of the reverse encounter at Brunton Park back in October, Albion managing to net four times to Carlisle`s three goals. All of the Brewers four goals came in the first half with Kyle Dempsey and Brad Potts also on the scoresheet in the first 45 for the hosts.

The away side took the lead in the opening five minutes thanks to Damien McCory though this lead didn`t last too long with Dempsey levelling up less than 10 minutes later. Lee Bell restored the advantage with Jacob Blyth making it 3-1 with five minutes of the first half left to play. In the closing seconds of this initial period of play, Alex MacDonald made it four whilst Potts added a second for the home club.

Derek Asamoah could score the only goal of the second half to make it 4-3. This was in spite of Burton being reduced to 10 men thanks to Stuart Beavon`s dismissal.

This game was played with Burton under the stewardship of their former manager Gary Rowett. After his defection to Championship club Birmingham, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink would take the reins. Carlisle had already replaced ex-boss Graham Kavanagh with Curle.

Both Betvictor and boylesports have installed Burton as the 4/6 favourites to do the double over troubled Carlisle and potentially claim themselves promotion to the third tier of English football for the first time. Whilst both Betvictor and Coral have priced a draw up at 3/1, most bookmakers are offering 5/1 on a surprise away victory.

Burton have not lost in League Two since the last day of February, this a full eight games without a defeat. In spite of this positive record, Hasselbaink`s men have not scored more than one goal in any of their last four games and can be backed at 11/5 (Betvictor) to score exactly one goal against Carlisle.

Adam McGurk is the club`s current top scorer with seven goals. He can be picked up at the best price of 13/8 at bet365 to add to his tally at anytime. bet365 also have the best price of 5/1 on him scoring the first goal of the encounter.

Curle`s Carlisle have bagged five points from their last five games but have failed to earn themselves a point in any of their last two matches away from Brunton Park. They lost 2-1 to Oxford United before being seen off 3-1 to Accrington Stanley. Both 888sport and unibet have 19/4 on both teams hitting the back of the net tomorrow night.
