This week’s round of Premier League fixtures comes to an end on Monday night when West Ham Welcome Newcastle United to the east end of London Home advantage

West Ham have had an interesting start to life under new boss Slaven Bilić. They have been dominant on the road against two of last season’s top six teams, while in contrast, they have looked vulnerable at home against two of the leagues newly-promoted sides.

The early indications are that Hammers fans are in for bumpy ride this season. This may come as welcome relief after the steady but dull approach often taken by former boss Sam Allardyce.

If they are going to get their first home win of the season, then Monday night could be the perfect time as they face a team that has yet to record a win in the current Barclays Premier League campaign.

Newcastle yet to win

The last time Newcastle United won a Premier League match they beat West Ham on the final day of last season to retain their top-flight status. It was their only victory in their last 15 league games.

After another uninspiring start to this season, featuring two losses and two draws, the Magpies currently reside in 19th place, with just goal difference separating them from their northeast rivals Sunderland. Newcastle are no strangers to slow starts having gone seven games without a win at the beginning of the last campaign.

Team news

With Aleksandar Mitrovic suspended, Steve McClaren will be forced into making at least one change for the clash on Monday. This might mean a starting role up front for Senegalese striker Papiss Cisse, although Ayoze Perez could also be pushed further forward to allow room in behind for Siem de Jong.

It is worth noting that Newcastle have been reduced to 10 men in both games that they have lost this season, so discipline will be a key factor going forward. In total they have had six players sent off in their last 14 Premier League outings.

It has been suggested that injury-ravaged Hammer’s striker Andy Carroll could return to the fold on Monday night after successfully recovering from knee surgery.

Betting odds and tips

West Ham are favourites to earn their first home win of the season and can be backed at 5/4 with betfred. That’s not bad considering they are playing a team that has just one win in their last 15 league games and just one away win in the whole of 2015. The Toon Army will face the long trip south knowing that the recent draw at Old Trafford was their first away draw since February. In total, the Geordies have lost 11 of their last 15 away games in the league.

If you fancy Newcastle to get yet another player sent off paddy Power will give you a generous price of 5/1.
