Switzerland take on Lithuania on Saturday night in what is a vital Group E Euro 2016 qualifying match for both teams in the bid to make it to the finals in France.
The home team, Switzerland have work to do if they want to make one of the two automatic qualifying places in the group. Currently sitting in 4th place with 3 points from their opening 3 games, the Swiss have suffered a home defeat at the hands of England and also lost on the road to Slovenia. Their only victory so far has come in the match against the group whipping boys, San Marino, a fixture that every other team in the group are likely to pick up maximum points. Despite this slow start to their qualifying campaign, Switzerland remain favourites to beat Lithuania at 1/4 with william hill.
It was during that victory against San Marino that Switzerland scored their only goals of the qualifying campaign to date, 4 in total. Forward Haris Seferovic found the back of the net twice in that match and has also started Switzerland`s other 2 qualifying games. Switzerland will be looking towards the Eintracht Frankfurt striker to score the goals again in this match and bet365 offer 11/2 that Seferovic will get the first goal of the game against Lithuania. Another player who scored against San Marino was Bayern Munich`s Xherdan Shaqiri, a player who has a world cup finals hat-trick to his name. The attacking midfielder is available at 9/2 to grab the first goal of the game and is useful from set pieces.
Lithuania have be delighted with their start to Group E, winning their first 2 matches away at San Marino and at home to Estonia. Having taken 6 points from those 2 games, the home defeat last time out against Slovenia would have come as disappointment ahead of the trip to Switzerland and leaves them in third place in the group on 6 points. Lithuania are priced at 18/1 with bet365 to defeat Switzerland and move on to 9 points in the group. Lithuania`s most experienced player, Saulius Mikoliunas is also their joint top goal scorer for his country out of the players currently active. Mikoliunas scored the goal that defeated Estonia in Vulnius and is on offer at 16/1 with bet365 to score at any time during the game. The other most likely goal scorer for Lithuania is striker Deivydas Matulevicius, who scored one of the two goals for Lithuania against San Marino and is available at 7/1 with bet365 to score at any time.
Switzerland have conceded 4 goals in their last 5 games, one coming in the world cup against Argentina and the others more recently against England and Slovenia. During that time, the Swiss have found the back of the net 8 times, although half of those goals came in one match, against San Marino. This suggests that Switzerland have tightened up since their humiliating 5-2 defeat at the hands of France in the world cup but have also been struggling to score goals as a result. Unfortunately for the Swiss, their last 5 games has seen them record only 2 wins and 3 defeats. However, Lithuania have failed to do any better, recording just 2 wins from their last 5 games but have only lost by more than one goal once out of their last 16 matches. This suggests a low scoring game, with Switzerland likely to come out on top with their good home record. SkyBet offer 11/4 for Switzerland to win by 1 goal and under 2.5 goals is available at 19/20 with BetVictor.
