Aston Villa fans will get their first opportunity to see new manager Tim Sherwood in action this afternoon as their side face fellow Premier League strugglers Leicester City in the FA Cup fifth round. Both clubs occupy positions in the relegation zone of the top tier of English football and will be hoping that success in this tournament can kick start their season.
This 12:30 meeting at Villa Park will be the two team`s third clash of the season. This head-to-head record currently reads one win a-piece.
Villa came from behind to see off the Foxes in their first match-up back in December, Ciaran Clark levelled up under five minutes after Leonardo Ulloa`s 13th minute opener before Alan Hutton scored his first ever Villans goal in the second half to give his team all three points. This encounter was also fought out at Villa Park.
The reverse fixture at the King Power Stadium saw just one goal separate the two teams as they met again a month later. This goal came from the Foxes central defender Paul Konchesky and allowed them to pick up the glory in their home tie.
As the home side have emerged victorious on both these occasions, Villa are the 5/8 favourites with betfred and Totesport to give Sherwood his first win of his reign. Most bookmakers are offering a price of 2/1 on the Blues grabbing a win away from home whilst a draw, which will result in a replay, has been priced up at 12/5 (bet365, betfred, Coral,Skybet, Totesport).
Similarly, another 2-1 home win for the 18th placed side can be backed at 10/1 with william hill whilst another 1-0 win for Nigel Pearson`s men is available at 8/1 at a number of betting establishments.
Betway`s 6/5 says that the two teams will be separated by a solitary goal for the third time in three meetings against each other.
Both teams have also recorded such slender victories in their previous two FA Cup games. Villa beat Championship strugglers Blackpool 1-0 at home before seeing off promotion contenders Bournemouth by two goals to one.
Leicester, on the other hand, put one goal past Newcastle to see them progress before securing a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
Villa have had three different scorers in these games, Christian Benteke grabbing the only goal against Blackpool two minutes from time and Carles Gil and Andreas Weimann hitting the back of the net against the Cherries. Of these players, Benteke is the hot favourite to score at any time against City, 21/10 with betfred.
Two of Leicester`s goals have come from Uruguayan Ulloa, who bagged the sole goal against the Magpies before levelling up with Spurs. Their star striker is 11/4 with 32red, 888sport and unibet to add to his FA Cup tally against the Villa Park outfit this afternoon. The only other of Leicester`s FA Cup goals came from Jeffrey Schlupp, he being available at 18/1 with betfair to score the last goal of the match once again.
In the league, Aston Villa recently put behind them a six game goalless streak by hitting the back of the onion bag in a 2-1 defeat at home to Chelsea. Centre-back Jores Okore was responsible for the ending of this unfortunate run though they got back to their profligate ways last week at Hull when going down 2-0. A Leicester clean sheet has been priced up at 13/5 (betfred, Totesport) whilst a Foxes win to nil is 39/10 (888sport, unibet).
Leicester are currently five games without not conceding, this came in their 1-0 win over Villa back in January.
