In the third part of our Premier League we look at the best of the bets from the individual markets starting with a look at the top goalscorer markets.
Sometimes you can try to look through markets for days from all angles to find betting value before finding the obvious answer is staring you in the face, it is the same with the top Premier League goalscorer betting. How can the 4/1 (YOU WIN) on Robin van Persie to be the top goalscorer be passed up? The Dutchman scored 26 goals last season and 30 the season before and there should be no reason why he can not complete a hat-trick of trophies. Not since Kevin Phillips in 99-00 has the award been won by a big player not playing for a big club. Everton do not have a recognized striker that can compete, Liverpool will be without Suarez for the start of the season, Chelsea and Man City have too many strikers, Arsenal do not have a single one. Tottenham have Bale and Soldado though they are likely to split the goals and this trophy is not won by a player in his first season in the Premier League since Phillips. This means the big new signings like Soldado, Negredo, Bony are also unlikely to win the trophy. Take the 4/1 on the best striker in the league, playing for one of the top three sides and is a proven talent with penalties likely to start every game.
Talking of goalscorers Gabby Agbonlahor looks great value in the market to be top English goalscorer. The Aston Villa player grabbed nine goals last season though eight of those came in his last 14 games of the season. The price of 40/1 (BETVICTOR/paddy Power) looks great each-way value when you look at the others ahead of him in the market.
Daniel Sturridge is the deserved 4/1 (BETVICTOR) but after him you have Rooney (unlikely to start), Walcott (scored just three times in the last 14 Arsenal games), Frank Lampard (strong rotation risk), Andy Carroll (too injury prone), Jermain Defoe (no starting place), Darren Bent (no club), Gary Hooper (first season in the league), Kevin Nolan (midfielder), Danny Welbeck (not a scorer), Steven Gerrard (will play too deep) and Dwight Gayle (no Premier League experience). Agbonlahor is a guaranteed starter, will play off a forward who commands attention in Benteke and is a proven top flight player.
A number of bookmakers are offering odds on the top goalscorer for each individual team which presents 20 interesting looking markets. The one price of value that stands out to me is in the top Everton goalscorer market which is headed jointly by Nikica Jelavic and Arouna Kone. Martinez admitted earlier this week that he is unsure who is first choice striker is and neither of these is a guaranteed starter. One man who is Kevin Miralles who can be backed at 13/2 (paddy Power) to finish as top scorer. The Belgian grabbed five goals in the last eleven games of last season and will play at the side of a front three this season. At a club with no proven goal talent he looks a great bet.
A number of other individual markets are available including the most asssits with the market headed by Juan Mata at 11/1 (boylesports). Gareth Bale and Robin van Persie are joint 8/1 (BETVICTOR) favourites to be PFA Player of the year while the golden glove award for most clean sheets has Joe Hart as the 15/8 (SKYBET) favourite for his fourth straight win.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Robin van Persie to be top Premier League scorer, 4/1 (YOU WIN)
SILVER: Kevin Miralles to be top Everton scorer, 13/2 (paddy Power)
BRONZE: Agbonlahor top English Prem scorer, EW, 40/1 (BETVICTOR/paddy Power)
