Premier League preview and odds: Middlesbrough vs Watford

October 16, 2016 13:30pm - Riverside Stadium

Premier League

New boys Middlesbrough will look to secure their first home win of the season on Sunday when they welcome second-termers Watford to the Riverside for this Premier League clash.

Middlesbrough trying to keep their heads above water

Middlesbrough`s started their first Premier League campaign in seven years with an unbeaten run of three games which included two draws and a 2-1 win away to rivals Sunderland. Since then, the northeast club has picked up just one point from four games and are currently sitting in 16th place in the table just two points above the drop zone.

Aitor Karanka`s men have scored and conceded at least one goal in all of their home matches this term and have yet to pick up a win on home soil. Their last two home matches have ended in 1-2 defeats to Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur.

Boro come into this game on the back of 1-1 draw away to struggling West Ham United. Five of their six points have been picked up away from home, with their only point at home coming on the opening day.

Meanwhile, visitors Watford have made a decent start to their second season in the top flight, having picked up eight points from their first seven fixtures. That`s not a bad return for a side adjusting to a new boss and a new system.

Since arriving in Hertfordshire, Walter Mazzarri has turned his side into the league`s fifth most potent attacking threat - although they also have the fourth most permeable defence. They have conceded at least one goal in every match so far and six of their matches have produced over 2.5 goals scored in total.

The Hornets come into this game on the back of a 2-2 draw at home to AFC Bournemouth in which they twice came from behind to salvage a point.

Team news

The home side will be without James Husband and Grant Leadbitter.

Meanwhile, the visitors may be looking for a bigger treatment room with Miguel Angel Britos, Valon Behrami, Isaac Success, Craig Cathcart, Jerome Sinclair, Stefano Okaka, Brice Dja Djedje and Daryl Janmaat all needing attention.
