Southampton will continue to put pressure on the Premier League`s top two should they steal a victory away from home at Newcastle in tomorrow`s 5:30 kick-off. The Saints did their Champions League chances on harm at all when getting the better off Manchester United last weekend and are now five top tier games without a defeat.

Manager-less Newcastle, on the other hand, could drop one position to eleventh by not recording a win tomorrow. Under the caretaker management of Steve Stone and John Carver, the Magpies have failed to win their two games in charge, racking up a 3-3 draw against lowly Burnley and a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the league leaders, Chelsea.

Steven Taylor headed his side in front against the Clarets at St James` Park, only for Paul Dummett to concede an own-goal a matter of minutes later. Jack Colback added the only other goal of the first half for the Tyneside club.

The second half saw Danny Ings level up for Sean Dyche`s men though Moussa Sissoko thought he had grabbed the winning goal for Newcastle ten minutes later. George Boyd thought differently and struck a powerful effort to share the spoils.

Newcastle have only lost two games at home so far this campaign. The first of this pair came on the first day of the season against Manchester City, a match they lost 2-0, whilst they were unlucky to lose 1-0 at home to local rivals Sunderland.

Southampton have an equally strong record on the road, the Hampshire side having won six times away from home. The last of these victories came on their travels at Old Trafford in their last Premier League game. Dusan Tadic grabbed the only goal in the side`s slight 1-0 triumph.

The Saints also won away mid-week, seeing off Championship high-flyers Ipswich Town in their FA Cup replay. The initial fixture ended 1-1 after Morgan Schneiderlin`s goal countered Darren Ambrose`s 19th minute header.

Unfortunately for the Tractor Boys, however, Shane Long bagged the only goal in their replay at Portman Road to see the top tier side through.

As a result of these recent away successes, Betvictor have installed Southampton as the 29/20 favourites to rule supreme in the weekend`s late kick-off. Newcastle can be backed at 12/5 with both betfred and Totesport, whilst a draw is offered up at the same price at betfred, ladbrokes and Totesport.

Ronald Koemen`s Southampton will be looking to do the double over the Magpies after the two teams` September clash ended 4-0 in the Saints` favour. Graziano Pelle grabbed a first half brace to put his side two to the good before two second half goals from Jack Cork and Ipswich hero Schneiderlin made it four.

Eleven-time goalscorer Pelle is the 5/1 (ladbrokes) favourite to collect the first goal of the match whilst he can also be backed at 9/1 (unibet) to grab a brace or better.

Twenty-nine to ten with betfair says that four or more goals will be scored once again.

Newcastle have a full list of absentees to attend to and their caretaker management team will have to search for a result without a number of key faces. For a start, both Papiss Cisse and Chieck Tiote are unavailable due to international obligations whilst Mehdi Abeid, Siem de Jong and Jonas Gutierrez are still yet to reach full fitness after time away from the field.

Southampton will be without the trio of Toby Alderweireld, Morgan Schneiderlin and Victor Wanyama, all of whom are injured.
