Man United and Man City are both in action this Tuesday night as the first night of the Champions League group stages gets underway. United are at home to Bayer Leverkusen in a game that pits two men new to the Champions League group stages as managers, David Moyes at United and Sami Hyypia at Leverkusen.

Moyes has limited experience (just a play-off game v Villarreal) his side though have a wealth of Champions League experience and are 4/5 (BETVICTOR) for victory in their opening group game.

Leverkusen are winless in their last 12 games away from home in this competition and have failed to win any of their four previous CL meetings with Man United. They can take heart though from the fact that United have lost their last two home games in this competition and they are available at 9/2 (GENERAL) while the draw is 14/5 (SKYBET/STAN JAMES).

Cluj, Braga, Basel are among the sides to have scored at Old Trafford in recent seasons as United have kept a clean sheet in just two of their last 11 Champions League home games The main danger for the Germans is Stefan Kiessling who has already grabbed four goals from five this season and 15 from his last 14 and is 3/1 (paddy Power).

Man City are also in action Tuesday night though the blue half of Manchester are away to Plzen from the Czech Republic. City are the 3/4 (BETVICTOR) favourites but they have yet to impress this season and they certainly have won just one of their six away games in this competition.

Plzen are no mugs at home having lost just one of nine previous games at home in this competition with that defeat coming at home to Barcelona. They can be backed at 19/4 (bet365) for victory while the draw is priced at 3/1 (STAN JAMES).

I like the look of Marian Cisovsky to score at anytime. City have a number of injuries at the back and despite a clean sheet against Stoke looked vulnerable especially to set-pieces. The Czech team excel at this area of the game with the big defender the main threat. Cisovsky already has five goals to his name in this tournament this season and is 16/1 (BETVICTOR).

Of the other games that night you would expect Bayern to see off CSKA Moscow and Juventus to see win at Copenhagen though the short odds do not offer much appeal.

Real Madrid are a short price to win in Turkey at galatasaray though that is not an easy trip while PSG travelling to Olympiakos could also be tougher than people can imagine.

This leaves two games the ones that have Real Sociedad at home to Shakhtar Donetsk with the Spanish side the 11/8 (bet365/BETVICTOR/paddy Power) and the Ukraine team a 12/5 (888 SPORT/CORAL/unibet) chance.

The best bet though comes in the game from Portugal where Benfica are at home to Anderlecht. The home side have not caught fire in their domestic campaign with just seven points frpm their four games. In addition they have won just four of their last eight at home in this competition with Basel having defeated them and they just scraped past Romanian side Otelul galati 1-0. The Belgian side managed draws at both Milan and Malaga last season and can be backed at 9/5 (BWIN) along with the draw in the double chance market.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Anderlecht/draw double chance v Benfica, 9/5 (BWIN)
SILVER: Stefan Kiessling to score anytime v Man Utd,
BRONZE: Marian Cisovsky to score anytime v Man City, 16/1 (BETVICTOR)
