Premier League preview and odds: Tottenham Hotspur vs Crystal Palace

August 20 , 2016 15:00pm - White Hart Lane

Premier League

Last season`s third place finishers Tottenham Hotspur will go in hunt of their first win of the season on Saturday when they welcome fellow Londoners Crystal Palace to White Hart Lane.

Spurs targeting consecutive top four finishes

Tottenham Hotspur kicked off their Premier League campaign with a point after playing out a 1-1 draw away to Everton last week. They will now look to secure all three points when they play their first home match of the season against a Crystal Palace side that stumbled at the first hurdle last weekend.

Erik Lamela got the only goal to rescue a point for Spurs last week after Ronald Koeman`s team took an early lead through Ross Barkley. The Londoners took a while to get going in that game but by the start of the second half they were looking more like the Spurs of last season.

Unfortunately, Mauricio Pochettino`s men were dealt a major blow after 35 minutes as goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris had to leave the field with a hamstring injury. However, Michel Vorm looked solid after being brought on in his place.

New signing Vincent Janssen made an appearance just before the hour mark and came close to scoring the winner late on. His assured performance could see him given the nod ahead of Eric Dier at the weekend.

Crystal Palace had the worst possible start to the season, losing at home to one of their direct mid-table rivals West Brom. The Eagles remained competitive throughout but were ultimately undone by a single goal from Salomon Rondon with 15 minutes to go.

Boss Alan Pardew may be disappointed by the result but the performance will have left him with plenty of positives, in particular the solid debut showing from new boy Andros Townsend.

Team news

As mentioned, Hugo Lloris was injured in the opener and will be out for several weeks.

Meanwhile, the visitors will have to cope without Pape Souare, Jonny Williams, Fraizer Campbell and Bakary Sako who are all undergoing treatment.

Betting odds and tips

Palace last won a league match away from home in December last year and will do well to take anything away from White Hart Lane. Spurs started to find their stride in the second half against Everton and should have enough to see off the challenge on Pardew’s men on Saturday.
