Manchester City v West Ham - Match preview and odds

Saturday, 19 September 17:30pm - Etihad Stadium

Premier League

The league leaders will be hoping to put their European disappointment behind them when they welcome one of this season’s most intriguing teams to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday Evening.

City stumble in Europe - again

After a storming start to the season, Manchester City finally tripped up when they were defeated at home by Juventus in their midweek Champions League match.

Failing to capitalise on home advantage in Europe is fast becoming a habit that City cannot break, and their fans were once gain left disappointed on Tuesday night. However, their league form remains blemish-free and they will be hoping that normal service will be resumed when West Ham visit on Saturday evening.

Headstrong Hammers

The Hammers will be heading north with a new-found belief that anything is possible under new boss Slaven Bilic. Having already swept aside Arsenal and Liverpool on their own turf, what should be their hardest game of the season is now being approached as a winnable contest.

Last weekend, the Irons secured their first home win of the season thanks to an inspired performance from Frenchman Dimitri Payet. That win lifted the East End team to fifth-place in the table just two points behind second-placed Leicester City.

If they can avoid the kind of sloppy performances that saw them fall at home to Leicester and Bournemouth, then they might just have a chance of taking something from this weekend’s game.

Team news

Pablo Zabaleta, Gael Clichy and Fabian Delph are all out injured for the home side but talismanic striker Sergio Aguero may feature after returning to the bench in midweek.

For West Ham, Angelo Ogbonna is out with a hamstring injury and joins Alex Song and Enner Valencia on the sidelines. Meanwhile, Mauro Zarate and Pedro Obiang are both doubtful but striker Andy Carroll could finally return to the fold after his lengthy absence.

Betting odds and tips

City’s European stumble has done nothing to change the bookies minds about the outcome of this game. The only result that they expect is a home win and if you want to back that market you will have to settle for a best price of 2/7 from bet365.

The Manchester team have yet to concede a goal in the league this season, so you could boost the home win price by backing City to win to nil at 5/4 with paddy Power.

If you are bold enough to predict any other result you will be rewarded with some big prices. A draw can be backed at 11/2 with bet365 and an away win can be staked at 12/1 with Betvictor.

West Ham have already proved unpredictable this season and could at least cause Manuel Pellegrini’s side some problems. With Aguero still struggling for fitness, City’s goal threat could be limited and the 10/1 price offered by bet365 for a 1-0 home win does appeal.
