Everton are in Switzerland tonight (18:00) for the first leg of their last-32 Europa League clash with BSC Young Boys. The Merseyside club will be hoping that a good show in this competition will kick start their domestic season, they currently languish in mid-table in the Premier League after 25 games and have failed to pick up a win on their last two starts. Roberto Martinez`s men lie 18 points off the Europa League qualification position.
Things are much more positive for Young Boys, contrarily, the side currently sitting in second place in the Swiss Super League. The team are eight points off league leaders Basel and will hope that they are equipped enough to be able to manage both domestic and European success.
Despite these differing domestic stories, it is Everton who are the favourites to claim the advantage over their opponents with a win away from home in this first leg tonight. Betvictor has the best price on a Toffees win with 31/20 saying that the English side can record a victory against Young Boys. In contrast, 21/10 (betfred, boylesports, Totesport) with a trio of bookmakers says that Uli Forte`s men will cause an upset and beat Everton at the Stade De Suisse. The price is 12/5 should you think the match will remain all square after 90 minutes, this price being available at most betting establishments.
Tonight`s visitors are competing in the Europa League for the first time since 2010. This is in stark contrast to the fortunes of Young Boys who have qualified for at least the qualification stages for four of the last five years. The one anomaly was when they failed to make an appearance in the tournament last season (2013-14).
The side progressed through to the knockout stage this year thanks to wins over Sparta Prague, Slovan Bratislava and Napoli. Such results saw them in second place, accumulating 12 points and just one off Group I table toppers Napoli.
With five goals in their six group games, French striker Guillaume Hoarau is Young Boys` Eupora League top scorer so far this season. He can be backed at 11/4 with Bwin to add to his tally at any time. Hoarau has opened the scoring on three of these occasions and can be backed at 7/1 with a number of bookmakers to break the deadlock tonight.
Forte`s men grabbed wins to nil in all three of their games at home. They are 21/5 with 32red, 888sport and unibet to continue this trend against Everton. Otherwise, it`s 13/5 (Coral) for Young Boys to keep a clean sheet.
Their opponents qualified from group H, a group also containing Wolfsburg, FK Krasnodar and Lille. With three wins, two draws and one solitary defeat, Everton topped this group, a point clear of Wolfsburg who occupied the last qualification spot.
Everton have a less pronounced top scorer with eight players contributing to their team`s tally of 10 Europa League group stage goals. The only player to score two goals, however, was Kevin Mirallas and he is available at odds of 7/2 (32red, 888sport, unibet) to hit the back of the net for his side tonight.
Both of Mirallas goals came in the last 15 minutes of the match, with Everton scoring a total of three of their goals in this period. sportingbet`s 8/11 says that a goal will be bagged for either side in the period from the 75th minute to the full time whistle.
Everton kept three clean sheets in their group stage encounters, they are 9/4 with bet365 and Spreadex to not concede tonight whilst Coral`s 10/1 says the clash will end a goalless draw.
