Last week was a humiliating one for Spanish football as both Barcelona and Real Madrid crashed to big first leg defeats in the Champions League. Will it be the same again in round two or can the Spanish sides salvage a little bit of pride? Here is our guide to the best of the bets from the Champions League.
Real Madrid know the fact that they at least netted an away goal in Dortmund gives them a slim hope of still making the final after a comprehensive 4-1 defeat to the German side in the first leg. These two sides meet on Tuesday night in a game that if Madrid can get an early goal could come to life. The Spanish side are the 4/6 (BETVICTOR/paddy Power/william hill) favourites to win the second leg while the draw 7/2 (GENERAL) and a Dortmund victory is 9/2 (betway). I expect the Spanish side to win and can not put anyone off backing them though I will be looking to enhance the price in another market . I like the idea of enhancing Real Madrid to win the game at HT and at FT as they need to coming out firing so take the 6/4 (BETVICTOR/888 SPORT/SPREADEX) on them to do so like this and also look to enhance them by taking them to win and Cristiano Ronaldo to score at anytime at 6/5 (betfred). Madrid will take heart from the fact that once before a side overturned a 4-1 first leg deficit and this was Deportivo against AC Milan in the quarter-finals of the 2003/04 campaign. If you think the Spanish side can do so here then take them at 4/1 (GENERAL). The 4-0 Madrid victory meanwhile is available at 33/1 (BETVICTOR) for those wishing to back it.
The game on Wednesday night is between Bayern Munich and Barcelona and it will take an amazing effort for the Spanish side to turn around a 4-0 first leg deficit something that has never been achieved before in the Champions League. The one small crumb of comfort they have is that on the three previous occasions that Barcelona have played at home to a German side in the Champions League knockout stages they have won by at least four clear goals including against Bayern in April 2009. It is a very small crumb of hope mind. Barcelona are the 37/40 (BETVICTOR) favourites for this game while the draw is available at 16/5 (bet365) and a Bayern victory is 3/1 (888 SPORT/YOU WIN). Such was the dominance of the German side in the first leg that they have to be worth a little interest to get something from this game in the draw no bet market. I would keep stakes small as they do not need to win this game but the prices invite you to back them. Why not take them then in the draw no bet market where you can get them at 2/1 (888 SPORT/CORAL/william hill). Those looking for a goalscorer bet will see that Lionel Messi is the head of the market at 7/2 (BETVICTOR/WILLIAM HILL/betway) while David Villa is 6/1 (GENERAL). Thomas Muller has been involved in 54.5% of the goals that Bayern have scored in the knockout stages of the Champions League this season, scoring four and assisting two of the eleven goals. Muller is 9/1 (GENERAL) to grab the first goal and 3/1 (888 SPORT) to score anytime.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo to score anytime, 6/5 (betfred)
SILVER: Real Madrid HT Real Madrid FT, 6/4 (BETVICTOR/888 SPORT/SPREADEX)
BRONZE: Bayern draw no bet v Barcelona, 2/1 (888 SPORT/CORAL/WILLIAM HILL)
