After a dramatic 14 weeks of action this Thursday night sees the conclusion of the Premier League Darts season for 2013 and here is a guide to the best of the best from the action.
The 02 Arena is the host for the final of the Premier League an event that is a battle between two Dutchmen and two Englishmen. Bookmakers have Michael Van Gerwen as the 13/10 (888 SPORT/BWIN) favourite for the tournament. The Dutchman, as predicted here, won the regular season by one point. He is as short as 4/11 (sportingbet/BETVICTOR) to win his semi-final against James Wade. These two split the regular season meetings 1-1 and Wade will feel confident he can cause problems at 11/4 (ladbrokes). Those who think Wade can go on and win the tournament might be tempted by the 10/1 (boylesports) are offering The bet in this game might be in taking Van Gerwen to cover the handicap of 2.5 at 17/20 (sportingbet) as nine of his 11 wins in this tournament have been three or more legs while Wade has been comfortably beaten in three of his last four matches. Another win to play this is to take a couple of scorers in the correct score market where you can back Van Gerwen to win 8-4 at 6/1 (SPORTINGBET), 8-5 is also 6/1 (SPORTINGBET). The problem with this though is that sometimes when Wade is off his game he can be really off his game and as such I will stick to the handicap market at the reduced price.
Another option to this tournament is to name the finalists with Taylor and Van Gerwen the 20/21 (SKYBET) favourites while Van Gerwen and Van Barneveld to meet in all Dutch final is 11/4 (SKYBET). Those who think you can get an all English final between Wade and Taylor can get this at 17/4 (CORAL) while a final between Van Barneveld and Wade is the outsider at 9/1 (CORAL). Punters can also try a straight forecast with Van Gerwen beating Taylor a 9/4 (SKYBET) chance while Taylor to beat Van Gerwen is a 3/1 (SKYBET/CORAL) chance. Van Gerwen beating Van Barneveld in an all Dutch final is 9/2 (CORAL) or Van Barneveld beating Van Gerwen is a 17/2 (SKYBET) chance.
The second game that evening is one that pitches arguably the two greatest players the game has ever known as Raymond Van Barneveld takes on Phil Taylor. It is no secret that Barney struggles against Taylor mentally especially in recent years. The Dutchman has failed to beat Taylor on the big stage since 2008 therefore Taylor is the deserved favourite at 4/9 (GENERAL). Deserved favourite perhaps but an unbackable one as he is not in the best of form. Barney had numerous chances to beat Taylor in Dublin a month ago. It is clear that the Dutchman is playing the better darts so odds of 2/1 (STAN JAMES) on him to secure the victory might appeal to some. A better way to play this then is in maybe backing Van Barneveld to come out of the blocks fast like he did in Dublin in a market that allows you to not have to worry if the Dutchman then collapses as he is prone to do. bet365 are offering a market where you can back a player to be leading after four legs and a player to be leading after six. Take Barney then to be ahead after four at 11/4 and ahead after 6 at 13/5. Then you can sit and enjoy the rest of what promises to be a great evening of Darts.
