The final day of the League One season is upon us so here is our guide to the best of the bets from the games on Saturday.
AFC Bournemoth are already confirmed as promoted and can secure the league title in style on Saturday when they visit Tranmere. I do not expect the Cherries to take their foot of their gas after a run of form that has seen them win each of their last eight games. Take them to make it nine in a row at 17/20 (BETVICTOR/betway ) when they take on the out of form Tranmere who have lost each of their last five and have failled to score in each of these games.
The race is on then to wrap up the other promotion spot and you could not have asked for a better scenario as Brentford take on Doncaster in a game in which the winner will get promotion to the Championship, the draw will see Doncaster go up. Brentford are the 11/10 (paddypower/ CORAL ) favourites to see off Doncaster who can be backed at 3/1 (SKYBET/BETVICTOR/SPREADEX ) while the draw is available at 5/2 (general ). It should be a fascinating game to watch and I amazed that SKY did not elect to move these games to a Sunday or earlier on the Saturday so they could show them live. I lean towards the Bees getting all three points at home though I think the prices on offer reflect this. Those wanting to make a play on the promotion market will see that Doncaster can be backed at 1/2 (TOTESPORT/boylesports/betfred) while Brentford are 13/20 (betway) though seeing as Brentford can only win promotion by winning the game it would be crazy not to take the match odds. True you get the back up of the play-offs but if you really fancy one of those sides to win by this means then you should go again next week as the prices will be much higher. Don’t forget we will have a full preview of all the play-off action here next week.
One issue still remains at the bottom of the table as Colchester and Scunthorpe battle to avoid becoming the final side to be relegated from the league. It is Scunthorpe who are currently fourth bottom three points behind Scunthorpe and perhaps more crucially three behind in goal difference. This Saturday Scunny are at home to Swindon and with the visitors secure in the play-off spots I could see the resting a few players here. It looks worth taking the home side to get the three points they need here at 17/10 (BETVICTOR). Despite Swindon winning their last two games I think the motivation is not huge for them to win here and key players will either be rested or keen not to get injured ahead of the play-offs. If Scunthorpe do win then Colchester must pick up a point or avoid a heavy defeat when they travel to Carlisle. Bookmakers have Carlisle at 9/5 (BETVICTOR ) for victory while the draw is available at 12/5 (BETVICTOR ) and a Colchester victory is a best priced 7/4 (TOTESPORT/betfred/ 888sport). Carlisle have drawn each of their last three home games and with the game meaning little to them then Colchester might just be able to play out the draw that they need. So get involved in the draw.
The rest of the games are largely meaningless and as such are difficult to predict with any degree of confidence due to players being rested or most clubs having nothing to play for so be sure to keep stakes to a low level if you do feel the need to get involved.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Bournemouth to beat Tranmere, 17/20 (BETVICTOR/betway )
SILVER: Scunthorpe to beat Swindon, 17/10 (BETVICTOR)
BRONZE: Draw between Carlisle and Colchester, 12/5 (BETVICTOR)
