The League One play-offs are tightly poised going into the second leg of the semi-finals. Here is our guide to the best of the bets from the games Monday.
Sheffield United are now the 2/1 (GENERAL) favourites to win the play-offs following their 1-0 victory over Yeovil in the first leg. Brentford are 11/5 (CORAL) after their 1-1 first leg draw with Swindon who are 10/3 (GENERAL) while Yeovil are the outsiders at 11/2 (sportingbet).
The first of the two games Monday is the one that pitches Yeovil against Sheff U and with just one goal seperating the sides I am amazed to see the Glovers as big as 2/1 (bet365/paddy Power/ladbrokes) in the to qualify market. Yeovil have won nine of their last 12 home games and six of these they have won by two or more goals. The Blades meanwhile have lost three of their last five away games, losing two of these by three or more goals. In addition in backing them to qualify then you will also want to back Yeovil to win the second leg which is available at 29/20 (BETVICTOR). A Sheff U win is available at 11/5 (STAN JAMES) while the draw can be backed at 12/5 (GENERAL). Those looking for a first goalscorer bet in this game will see that the market is headed by Yeovil hot-shot Paddy Madden who is 5/1 (BETVICTOR/CORAL). Madden has dried up in recent weeks though he did come close in the first leg and odds of 9/5 (BETVICTOR) on him in the anytime scorer market might appeal. At slightly bigger prices consider James Hayter who is 12/5 (BETVICTOR) to score anytime and has grabbed three in his last six. Those looking to want to back a Blades player can get Dave Kitson at 13/2 (bet365) to net first.
The other semi-final sees Brentford entertain Swindon with the scoreline tied at 1-1 from the first leg. Brentford fans will be hoping for a happier occasion than the last home game at Griffin Park when they saw their hopes of automatic promotion smashed in the last seconds as they missed a penalty and Doncaster ran away and scored at the other end. The Bees though have another chance and have to be pleased to come away with a draw from the first leg. It is 5/4 (BETVICTOR/CORAL) that Brentford win the second leg and some might find this on the generous side seeing as Brentford have won five of their last six at home and Swindon have lost each of their last four away games. Those who do think the Robins can get something from this game can get the draw at 12/5 (bet365/SKYBET/BETVICTOR) and an away win at 5/2 (BETVICTOR/STAN JAMES/william hill). The first goalscorer market is headed by Clayton Donaldson who was the top Brentford scorer in the regular season and is 5/1 (GENERAL) to grab the opener. Bradley Wright-Phillips has netted three times in the last three home games and is 6/1 (BETVICTOR/CORAL) to score first. Those looking for a first scorer from Swindon could be tempted by Adam Rooney at 15/2 (GENERAL) or James Collins at 7/1 (GENERAL). The bet though is Massimo Luongo to score as he has done so in two of the last four Swindon games. The midfielder on-loan from Tottenham is available at a very generous 22/1 (SKYBET) to score first or 7/1 (BETVICTOR/william hill) in the anytime scorer market.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Yeovil to beat Sheff United, 29/20 (BETVICTOR)
SILVER: Yeovil to make the final, 2/1 (bet365/paddy Power/ladbrokes).
BRONZE: Massimo Luongo score v Brentford, first 22/1 (SKYBET) anytime 7/1 (BETVICTOR/WILLIAM HILL).
