Here is our guide to the best of the bets from the second legs of the League Two play-offs and a guide to the final of the Conference Premier play-off.
Followers of this column will know that we recommended getting on Burton to qualify for the final of the League Two play-offs at 11/8 ahead of their first leg at Bradford. A 3-2 away victory means that Burton are now as short as 3/10 (SKYBET/sportingbet/betway) to qualify for the final with Bradford now out to 11/4 (bet365/BETVICTOR/888 SPORT). If you followed our advice and backed Burton then the time is right to get Bradford onside. The Bantams need just win by one goal to force extra-time as away goals do not count in these games. To win on the evening it is 31/20 (BETVICTOR) that Burton do the business while the draw is 21/10 (boylesports) and the Bradford victory is 5/2 (GENERAL).
The other game sees Cheltenham take on Northampton with the Cobblers 1-0 up from the first leg thanks to a Roy O’Donovan goal. The goal was third the player has grabbed in his last three games and he looks over-priced then to score at 11/4 (bet365/BETVICTOR) in the anytime scorer market. In terms of the game markets it is Cheltenham who are the 13/10 (CORAL) favourites for the second leg which is understandable as they have not lost a home game against a team from their own division (they did lose a cup game to Everton) since October 9th to Oxford. That in itself was a League Trophy game though so you have to go all the way back to September for the last home league loss. These two teams in fact met at Cheltenham on the 1st of April with the home side winning the game 1-0. Those who think Northampton can get something from the game can get the draw at 5/2 (bet365) which is the same price as a Cobblers victory (BYLESPORTS/BETVICTOR). In terms of backing a team to qualify then it is finely balanced therefore I am surprised to see Cheltenham as big as 13/8 (bet365) while Northampton are just 8/15 (SKYBET). The fact that away goals do not count for double means that a 1-0 Cheltenham win (the scoreline in 3 of their last five home games) will send this game into extra time.
The Conference Premier Final is also on Sunday with Newport up against Wrexham in an all Wales battle. It has been an incredible year so far for Welsh sport, Wales won the Six Nations Rugby Union, Swansea won the League Cup, Cardiff won the Championship, Gareth Bale was named footballer of the year and now one side from Wales will return to the Football League, but which one? Bookmakers have Wrexham as the 13/8 (STAN JAMES) favourites to win the game in 90 minutes or 10/11 (GENERAL) to gain promotion. Newport meanwhile are evens (william hill) to gain promotion or 15/8 (BETVICTOR/william hill) to win the game in 90 minutes. Newport finished the season higher (third) than Wrexham (Fifth) though Wrexham impressed in easing past second placed Kidderminster in the last round. The bet in this game has to be NO at 11/10 (GENERAL) in the both teams to score market as this would have paid in four of the last five head-to-head meetings between these sides and would have paid in seven of the last eight Newport games.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Cheltenham to qualify for play-off final, 13/8 (BET365)
SILVER: Roy O’Donvan to score anytime v Cheltenham, 11/4 (BET365/BETVICTOR)
BRONZE: NO on both teams to score Newport v Wrexham, 11/10 (GENERAL)
