Love them or loathe them (I suspect more people are in the latter camp than the former) Stoke have once again secured a place in the Premier League for another season (barring a last minute collapse). The Potters are in 11th place just two behind West Ham and have taken seven points from their last three games. It really should have been nine though as Tony Pulis showed a complete lack of ambition against the ten men of Sunderland by keeping on the pitch two defensive midfielders. Stoke are 7/2 (GENERAL) for victory and along with their good form they should be in good heart as they are unbeaten in their last three league clashes with Tottenham. I can not be siding with Stoke as they have little to play for though that said I will not be rushing to back Spurs at 10/11 (GENERAL). The draw could be the most likely option at 13/5 (bet365/boylesports/BETVICTOR) though this looks a tough game too call. As to be expected the first goalscorer market is headed by Gareth Bale at 407/100 (YOU WIN) while Jermain Defoe is an 11/2 (SKYBET) chance. Emmanuel Adebayor has had a hugely disappointing season if you are Tottenham fan though he was man of the match against Chelsea in midweek. The striker is an enigma though if he is in a rich vein of form then the 15/2 (SKYBET) on him to score first could be value. The best bet here has to be on both teams to score at 37/40 (BETVICTOR) as this would have paid in seven of the last eight Tottenham games in all competitions while Stoke have managed to find the net in four of their last five games. This bet would have paid in six of the last nine meetings between these sides.
Like the Kennedy assassination, the Moon landings, the death of Diana and the split of JLS (okay maybe not that last one) people will not forget where they were when they heard the news that Sir Alex Ferguson will step aside. I was six when Fergie took over so all my football life he has been the boss of Man United and it will be very weird to see David Moyes lead them out next season. This marks the last time Ferguson takes charge at Old Trafford and the atmosphere is sure to be rocking. Swansea will probably aim to stop the party and make the headlines for themselves though I am not sure they will have the talent to do so. The Red Devils are 1/3 (BETVICTOR/CORAL/william hill) which does not inspire me to back them while I would have hoped the bookmakers might have given a little more away on the Swansea win which is just 11/1 (bet365/888 SPORT). Those wanting to back the draw can do so at 19/4 (BWIN). Robin van Persie is 3/1 (bet365/william hill) to score the first goal as he looks to add to his recent tally of six goals in his last five appearances. I prefer though to look to some of the old timers as I think Ferguson will find places for two of his loyal servants, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes. The Welshman is 9/2 (888 SPORT) to score anytime while the Englishman is 114/25 (YOU WIN). It would be a fitting tribute to Fergie if one or both of his key players found the net and I think with Van Persie having top scorer wrapped up I could see a penalty being handed to one of these players.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Both teams to score in Stoke and Tottenham, 37/40 (BETVICTOR)
SILVER: Ryan Giggs to score anytime v Swansea, 9/2 (888 SPORT)
BRONZE: Paul Scholes to score anytime v Swansea, 114/25 (YOU WIN)
