It seems all over bar the shouting (and trust me there is a lot of that) on the Voice UK where Leah McFall is a remarkable 4/11 (boylesports/betfred/BETVICTOR) for outright victory. If you look at the success of her song from last week which seems set to reach the top ten then it looks clear I am in the minority in my views of Leah (weird seems to have been mistaken for talented). The advice then is to look elsewhere and I am very disappointed that the bookmakers have not priced a market without such a short priced favourite. You can still though bet on who will win for each team which with two remaining essentially becomes a matchbet. In team Jessie J it is a battle between Ash Morgan and Matt Henry with Morgan the 1/4 (CORAL) favourite over Henry at 9/2 (ladbrokes). Morgan should win this one though I would be willing to take him on. 9/2 is a massive price and the semi-finals last year saw both Jazz Ellington and Ruth Brown eliminated who were both strong favourites. Henry nailed his song in the battle rounds and Morgan might just be a little too theatrical in his voice for some of the voting public.
Team Danny looks the tightest battle between Andrea Begley and Karl Michael. Begley was (other than Leah) the standout performer last week and is 4/7 (ladbrokes) to go through here while Michael who was once favourite is a 6/4 (CORAL) chance. This looks a tough one to call.
Team Will is Leah versus Cleo which only in her own inflated ego would Cleo think she could win. Leah is 1/33 (CORAL) while Cleo is 16/1 (bet365/BETVICTOR).
Team Tom has an interesting battle between Mike Ward at 4/6 (CORAL) and Joseph Apsotol (13/8) and this also looks a tight battle with Apostol marginal value though not enough to convince me to back him.
Away from the BBC and on Channel Five and Big Brother started the fourteenth series. Wow it does not seem that long ago since Nasty Nick was doing his work in series 1 back when the show was a genuine social experiement. My interest in the show dropped out around series four or five so I can not tell you what 3/1 (SKYBET/boylesports/CORAL) favourite Sam is like. What can I tell you is though that you should not rush to get involved at that price the series is a marathon not a sprint and favourites tend to come and go. Someone who appears quiet at first can emerge later throughout the series as a great character or someone hated can becme likeable or someone likeable can become hated. It can all change in heartbeat so don’t be afraid of the bigger prices or to take on those at a smaller price.
One final specials bet I would like to recommend is in the wrestling which this Sunday showcases Payback (not the Mel Gibson movie). Chris Jericho and CM Punk are scheduled to meet in a match and the 4/1 (SKYBET) are offering on a Jericho victory looks huge. Owner Vince McMahon likes nothing more to screw with someone in their hometown (the event is in the town of Chicago where Punk is from). Throw in the fact that Punk looks like being cheered like crazy and this looks the perfect place for a double turn making Punk good and Jericho bad. Paul Heyman will be the man to do this and can do so by costing Punk the match and teaming with Jericho.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Chris Jericho to beat CM Punk at WWE Payback, 4/1 (SKYBET)
SILVER: Matt Henry to beat Ash Morgan, 9/2 (ladbrokes)
