The Thursday night football game sees the defending champions New York Giants take on the Carolina Panthers. Both sides are currently 1-1 and bookmakers do not know how to split the pair and both teams can be had at 10/11 in places (though the Panthers are as big as 20/19 with pinnacle). If you must get involved in the game the best bet is small stakes on the Panthers to score over 25 points at 10/11 (general). The Giants struggling defensive backs have been unable to prevent opposing receivers having big games (Vince Jackson grabbed 128 yards, five catches and a touchdown against the Giants last week) and Steve Smith could have a field day here. Smith is also 8/1 (Stan James) in the first touchdown market.
The first of three live games on Sunday sees New York Jets take on Miami. The Jets and the Dolphins are both 1-1 to start the season. New York are the 7/10 (pinnacle) favourites for victory while Miami are 13/10 (Bodog/You Win). Despite the victory over Oakland I am not convinced that Miami are a good team. I would be comfortable taking the Jets to cover the three points at evens (general). The Jets should not feel any disgrace in losing to the Steelers in Pittsburgh and beat Buffalo convincingly in week one. Reggie Bush will not find the running lanes against the Jets that he did against the Raiders. Ryan Tannehill will likely be asked some taxing questions by Rex Ryan and the Jets defence. I think the Jets can cover here.
The second game of the night sees Denver take on Houston. The Texans are 2-0 to start the season and are 5/6 (betfred/william hill) for victory at the Broncos (who are 23/20-betfred). To go 3-0 the Texans must see off their first real test of the season though they will take heart from the way Peyton Manning looked human against the Falcons. It promises to be a real cracker and with two strong offensive units (both of whom are averaging over 25 points) the best bet in this game is to play the over 46.5 points which is a best priced 42/41 (pinnacle).
The third and final live game Sunday is arguably game of the weekend as New England take on Baltimore. The Patriots were highly fancied for the Superbowl before a shock defeat to Arizona. They will look to bounce back here against a Ravens side who lost a close one to the Eagles last week. Baltimore are the 5/7 (william hill) favourites while New England are 39/29 (Pinnacle). It looks a tough game to call and those looking for a bet might want to check out the touchdown prices on Julian Edelman. The Patriots receiver saw a lot more of the ball in week 2 thanks to the injury to Aaron Hernandez and he might be worth a small punt to score here.
Monday night sees Green Bay at Seattle. As Dallas found last week there are no easy games in Seattle and the Seahawks will be determined to bloody the noses of the Packers. It is 11/18 (Pinnacle) that Green Bay win while Seattle are 8/5 (william hill). I think the Packers should just have too much and take them to cover the three point spread at 9/10 (Pinnacle).
The best bet of the weekend is the Detroit to score over 25 which is 10/11 (Skybet/BetVictor/Stan James). Tennessee are conceding an average of 36 points a game while The Lions ran up 19 against a San Francisco side with one of (if not the best) defences in the game.
