After an explosive opening to the 2012 Darts Premier League in Manchester, the action moves to the A.E.C.C. in Aberdeen for the second round of fixtures on Thursday February 16.
World Champion Adrian Lewis and World No.1 Phil Taylor rounded off a tremendous night of darts action at the M.E.N. Arena, fighting out a thrilling 7-7 draw which saw Taylor fight back from 6-1 down to the delight of his traditionally raucous supporters.
But it is Lewis who will get things underway in Aberdeen and the ‘Jackpot’ will be confident of attaining his first victory of the tournament at the expense of Dutchman Raymond Van Barneveld.
Lewis should not be discouraged after being pegged back by the ‘Power’ who averaged in excess of 118 against him during the second half of the match.
Van Barneveld will, as ever, put up a tough battle as he did against Aussie Simon Whitlock when tying 7-7 in week one.
But it is the man from Stoke-on-Trent who should have the extra quality and he can sink Van Barneveld who often struggles to make a prolonged mark on this competition.
The aforementioned Whitlock will be gunning to secure his place in the top four as the weeks pass by and the ‘Wizard’ can also gain his first success of the tournament when he squares off against James Wade.
Wade holds the advantage by ranking however it is Whitlock who is likely to rule supreme on the oche unless Wade can improve markedly on his performance in week one against Premier League debutant Andy Hamilton.
It will be a tall order for Hamilton to follow up on his triumph over Wade with Scot Gary Anderson up next for the ‘Hammer’ - in front of a partisan home crowd.
Anderson was turned over by the ‘Artist’ Kevin Painter in Manchester – a dire encounter which saw both players average under 85.
But if Anderson can put that result quickly to bed and find his natural high level of form, a first win for the ‘Flying Scotsman’ should be on the cards.
It is Painter and Taylor who complete the week two line-up and the latter has to be tipped to kick start his campaign and put a dead end to Painter’s winning start to Premier League life.
Painter earned a result over Taylor before Christmas however a repeat of that looks unlikely this time around considering that Taylor’s average was over 30 points superior to Painter’s during his tussle with Lewis.
Taylor should be able to see off Painter rather comfortably and provide the banker selection out of the four high profile ties in Aberdeen.
Combined with Lewis, Anderson and Whitlock or draw, punters can enjoy a profitable as well as an entertaining night of darts action.
The most 180’s market over the four matches may also be worth a peak and although he is likely to be favourite, Taylor can deliver the goods in his tie against Andy Hamilton providing that he can replicate something close to his average from week one.
