Fa Cup

Just one more tie stands between Conference Premier sides Cambridge and Tamworth and a place in the Third Round of the FA Cup. First the non league pair must get past League One opposition. Here is our guide to the best of the bets from these live games.

The first half of the double-header on Sunday sees Conference Premier leaders Cambridge at home to League One side Sheffield United (12:00, BT SPORT). The U’s are four points clear in the league and have just one defeat from all their games this season and they can be backed at 11/4 (boylesports) for victory here. The visitors are a Sheffield United side who have slowly started to pick up under new boss Nigel Clough and are now three games unbeaten, drawing two of these. The Blades have won at Colchester and Bristol City in recent weeks while drawing at leaders Leyton Orient and if they are hungry for an FA Cup run then they look value at 11/10 (GENERAL). Despite the form of Cambridge there is two divisions between these sides and Sheffield United under Nigel Clough are closer to a top six side. Remember to keep stakes smaller than normal though because it is hard to know how serious sides are taking the FA Cup.

The second live game on Sunday (14:00, ITV) sees Tamworth at home to a Bristol City side who just appointed a new manager during the week. City fans were less than impressed by the decision to appoint Steve Cotterill. The Robins are the eighth side he has managed and his record in recent spells at Portsmouth and Forest are not the most impressive. He does have experience of the league and has promotions to his name at Notts County and Cheltenham and it might be more a case of style over susbstance for City as they look to avoid a second successive relegation and a slip to the fourth tier of English football.

If you think Cotterill can get off to winning ways here then you can back City at 4/5 (CORAL) which considering they have just one win from their last 11 away games offers no appeal at all. Tamworth have lost just one of their last six at home, winning four of these and can be backed 4/1 (GENERAL) while the draw is 29/10 (bet365/BETVICTOR).

The bet I like in this game comes in the anytime scorer market where Tamworth forward Nick Chadwick is available at odds of 10/3 (CORAL). Chadwick has three goals in his last four games and will fancy his chances against a Robins defence that has shipped at least once in each of their last 11 away games.

Finally one final bet I like the look of is Macclesfield at 11/4 (BEETWAY) being the non-league team that goes furthest in the FA Cup this season. The firm are also offering odds on which League One side and which League Two side will progress furthest. Of the 11 remaining sides in the competition the Silkmen have the easiest tie, a home game with Conference North side Brackley Town. The other nine sides all have games with teams who are in the Football League.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Sheffield United to beat Cambridge, 11/10 (GENERAL)
SILVER: Macclesfield to be Non-League side progressing furthest, 11/4 (betway)
BRONZE: Nick Chadwick to score anytime v Bristol City, 10/3 (CORAL)
