The pick of the non live 3pm games in the Premier League is the game from St James’ Park where seventh placed Newcastle play host to eight placed Southampton.
Newcastle enter the game on a massive high following their victory at Old Trafford last weekend which was their first at this ground since 1972 and was their fifth win from their last six Premier League games. The Magpies are 7/5 (GENERAL) to defeat a Southampton side that they have beaten in the last six meetings between these sides in the North East.
Southampton ended a three match losing streak last weekend when they battled out a 1-1 draw with Man City. The Saints are now on a run of five games without victory away from home and have a number of first teamers out with injury. Those who fancy them to get something from the trip can back them at 11/5 (SPREADEX) while the game to end in a draw is priced at 12/5 (GENERAL).
I talked before about the injuries Southampton had but more crucial than that for me is the absence of Yohan Cabaye for Newcastle who is suspended for the game. He is the man who makes the midfield tick for the Magpies and as such I think the Saints can get something from this. The draw represents a real risk though so I will take the visitors in the draw no bet market at 5/4 (SPREADEX) which seems fair in a game between two sides with little between them in which the home side are missing their best player.
In terms of the goalscorer markets Loic Remy is the main threat for Newcastle with eight goals this season and he is 6/1 (bet365/BETVICTOR) to net at anytime while the Saints main frontman Rickie Lambert is 7/1 with the same firms.
West Ham meet Sunderland in a crucial battle at the bottom of the table with both sides in desperate need of three points. Bookmakers West Ham the evens (GENERAL) favourite as they look to build on their six wins from the eight previous home games against Sunderland. The Hammers though have won just two of their last 14 games and that price looks much too short .
The Black Cats can count themselves a little unlucky in their 2-1 defeat to Tottenham last weekend which they lost to a John O’Shea. Sunderland have failed to win any of their last four this tends to be as they shoot themselves in the foot by shipping goals or getting players sent off. On recent occasions though they have put in some positive performances including a 2-1 victory over Man City and a 0-0 draw with Villa that they had an amazing chance to win. I think then odds of 15/16 (BETVICTOR) on the North East side with a 0.5 start on the Asian Handicap market is great value. This will pay out on a Sunderland win or the draw.
The lack of goal threat is obvious for both sides and therefore it is a surprise to see boylesports and SPREADEX offering evens on NO in the both teams to score market. Sunderland have failed to score away from home in their last five Premier League away games while West Ham have failed to score in four of their last seven league games.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Southampton draw no bet v Newcastle, 5/4 (SPREADEX)
SILVER: Sunderland + 0.5 on Asian Handicap v West Ham, 15/16 (BETVICTOR)
BRONZE: NO in both teams to score West Ham v Sunderland, 11/10 (boylesports)
