The lunchtime game in the Championship this weekend (12:15, SKY SPORTS) is the battle between fourth and sixth as Derby take on Blackpool. Although these sides are level on points these are two teams with different form. Derby have won each of their last four games and three of their last four at Pride Park (drawing the other one). Blackpool meanwhile have won just three of their last 12 games and just one of their last six away from home. The Rams will be a popular bet for many though odds of 5/6 (paddy Power) look a little short for my liking so instead I will look to the anytime scorer market. Chris Martin has ten goals to his name this season and three in his last four games and the Derby front man is a generous 2/1 (paddy Power) to score at anytime against the Tangerines.
Brighton and Leicester both lost in midweek putting an end to good runs of form and they meet each other on Saturday looking to get back on track. Bookmakers are struggling to split the pair making the Foxes marginal favourites at 17/10 (BETVICTOR) with the same firm 7/4 on a Brighton victory and the draw on offer at 12/5 (GENERAL).
QPR ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over Bournemouth at Loftus Road on Tuesday night and are 8/11 (GENERAL) to see off Blackburn on Saturday. The Lancashire side have won just once away all season while QPR have won eight of their nine in the league at home so this will be a popular one for the accumulators.
Burnley have hit a little mini slump with no win in their last six in all competitions, drawing four of these. The Clarets will be looking to bounce back to form aaginst a managerless Barnsley though the Tykes did beat Brighton in midweek so odds of 8/13 (GENERAL ) look a little short on a home victory.
Doncaster did the business for us on Tuesday night at Birmingham and I think they are value to get something from their trip to Bolton on Saturday. The Trotters have now lost two games in a row including a home loss to Huddersfield on Tuesday night. Rovers picked up a useful point against Birmingham and after a slow first half were much improved in the second. That made it just one defeat from the last five games for the Yorkshire side which includes a victory over QPR. The best way to do this is with a 0.5 start on the Asian Handicap which pays out on the game ending in a draw or in a Rovers victory at 27/20 (bet365).
Another bet I like the look of is an anytime scorer bet on Connor Whickham at 9/4 (bet365). the sunderland player is on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and was unplayable for the Owls on Tuesday night and now has four goals from his last three games at home. He will fancy his chances against Forest who have kept a clean sheet in just one of their last nine away games.
If Gary Johnson can keep Yeovil in the Championship this season then he deserves to be named manager of the year. The Glovers have now seen off Watford and Blackpool this week and are 19/10 (BETVICTOR) to defeat a Charlton side who have lost four of their last five. The bet I like is the NO in the both teams to score market at 11/10 (boylesports) which would have paid in five of the last six Charlton games and four of the last five Yeovil ties.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Doncaster +0.5 on Asian Handicap v Bolton, 27/20 (bet365)
SILVER: Connor Whickham to score v Nottingham Forest anytime, 9/4 (bet365)
BRONZE: Chris Martin to score v Blackpool, 2/1 (paddy power)
