League 1

Perhaps the most compelling fixture in the roster of those taking place this evening is that being hosted by Notts County as they continue their fight against relegation against automatic promotion hopefuls Preston North End.

Tonight`s hosts have just three games to escape the relegation quagmire, they needing two points to leap over all of Leyton Orient, Crewe and Crawley. They would also need Orient to lose in their tie against Rochdale. Failure to secure all three points over Preston tonight could see County fall below Colchester with wins for those above them seeing the Magpies need the maximum of six points from their last two games to secure safety.

A lot is riding on this game for their opponents too, North End having not yet sealed their return to the Championship. The Lilywhites are just one point better off than third placed MK Dons and need to continue picking up victories to avoid being superseded by Karl Robinson`s side. Neither the Lancashire club nor the Dons will be able to catch the already crowned League One champions Bristol City.

The two sides have met twice already this season, the first encounter being the reverse League One fixture at Preston`s Deepdale on the opening day of the season. This preceded the two clubs` meeting in the Football League Trophy.

Neither club was able to break the deadlock in the first half of their League One clash. The first goal of the 1-1 draw came from Notts County`s Jake Cassidy just seven minutes after the restart. It looked as though the East Midlands club were coasting to victory until Joe Garner managed to scramble home an equaliser just minutes from the full time whistle.

Betvictor have the best price of 7/1 on tonight`s game ending 1-1 with the same bookmaker`s 5/1 saying that the match will be tied at both the end of the first half and the end of the second 45. Most bookies have the best price of 7/2 on Joe Garner being the last goalscorer of the match as 11/10 with all of betfair, betfred and Betvictor is the best available price on both teams hitting the back of the net at any time.

Only one goal was scored in the entirety of the team`s Football League Trophy encounter. It was grabbed by Preston`s Paul Huntington just 20 minutes into the knockout tie. Simon Grayson`s men would go on to be knocked out by Walsall over two legs in the Northern area final.

Another 1-0 victory to the Lancashire side can be picked up at 6/1 at Betvictor with a win to nil on offer at most bookmakers at 6/4. Huntington is up for grabs at 25/1 (paddy Power) to be the first goalscorer of the match once again.

Indeed it is the promotion hopefuls who are the favourites to secure victory despite their away disadvantage. All of betfred, boylesports, paddy Power and Totesport have 4/6 on a Preston win by any means. Otherwise, bet365 have the best price of 11/2 on a home win whilst 31/10 (betfred, Totesport) says a second successive league draw will be played out between the two clubs.

Ricardo Moniz`s hosts are without a win in their last 10 league games, having picked up six draws in this period. They have not been able to score more than two goals in a match since their 2-2 draw with Scunthorpe at the end of March and they can be backed at 12/5 (betfred, Betvictor, Coral) to score under 1.5 goals tonight.

Preston have not lost since the final day of January though have picked up three draws in their last three games.
