USA are the 10/11 (bet365) favourites for the CONCACAF Gold Cup which is great news for those who took them at 11/8 as we recommended at the start of the campaign. The USA coasted through their group winning all three games netting 11 and conceding just twice. Mexico are the 10/3 (betfred/CORAL/william hill) second favourites despite only coming second to Panama in their group (which was tipped here at 9/2). They should though have no problems in the last eight with Trinidad and Tobago.
Panama are the 15/2 (188BET/YOU WIN) third favourites and a rematch with Mexico likely awaits them in the last four. Seeing as they have already beaten Mexico odds of 5/2 (188 BET) on them to make the final looks good value.
Costa Rica were our pre-tournament tip to make the final though sadly the draw means they will play the USA in the last four if they get by Honduras in the last eight game. Costa Rica are 9/1 (GENERAL) to win the tournament while Honduras are 12/1 (188 BET).
The other three are considered outsiders and it is 66/1 (betfred) that Trinidad and Tobago lift the trophy, 125/1 (ladbrokes) El Salvador and Cuba are 150/1 (GENERAL)
The first of the four quarter-finals is the one that ses Mexico take on Trinidad and Tobago and the Mexicans are the 4/11 (GENERAL) favourites while the draw is 4/1 (bet365) and a Trinidad and Tobago victory is 17/2 (BETVICTOR). These two teams have split their last three meetings winning one each and one ending in a draw. As we said before this is not the strongest Mexico side and although they should win this game I think the price is too short. The best bet in this game could be in backing Fabian in the goalscorer markets when prices are released as he has grabbed a goal in every game of the tournament so far.
Panama take on Cuba in the second semi-final and these sides have met seven times in the last twenty years with Panama winning three times, Cuba twice and two draws. Recent games though have favoured Panama who are unbeaten in the last three winning two which is why they are the 1/3 (CORAL) short priced favourites.
The bet could be in a goalscorer/win double when the prices are released. Gabriel Torres has netted all three goals for Panama and he will fancy his chances against a Cuba defence that conceded seven in the group stages.
The toughest of the four quarter-finals to predict is the one between Costa Rica and Honduras. Costa Rica came second in their group behind the US while Honduras topped their group. Bookmakers make Costa Rica the 23/20 (BETVICTOR) favourites which seems a little short in what could be a tight game. The last six games between these sides have seen three draws, two Costa Rica wins and one Honduras win with all these wins came by just one goal. I think the way to play this then is in taking the game to be drawn at 12/5 (GENERAL).
The final quarter-final should be simple for the US who are unbeaten in 21 previous meetings with El Salvador. Odds of 2/7 (CORAL) look much too short to be siding with so the best bet in this game might be in the goalscorer markets where Stuart Holden is 5/1 (william hill) to net at anytime. The Bolton player has already grabbed one in this tournament .
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Panama to make the final, 5/2 (188 BET)
SILVER: Draw in the game between Costa Rica and Honduras, 12/5 (GENERAL)
BRONZE: Stuart Holden to score anytime v El Salvador, 5/1 (william hill)
