La Liga preview and odds: Real Sociedad vs Las Palmas

Sep 21, 2016 21:00pm - Estadio Municipal de Anoeta

La Liga

Real Sociedad will be looking for their first home win of the season when they host high-flying Las Palmas at Estadio Municipal de Anoeta on Wednesday night.

Stuttering start for La Real

Real Sociedad have had a mixed start to their season. Having kicked off their campaign with a 0-3 home defeat to Real Madrid, they bounced back with a 2-0 win away to newly-promoted Osasuna. A home draw against Espanyol (1-1) followed before they fell away to Villarreal (1-2) last weekend. Next up is a home clash against one of the league`s in-form teams.

The Basque Country side are currently sat in 14th place in the table with a total of four points. They have won just one of their last five league matches on home soil - the last triumph coming against relegated Rayo Vallecano at the end of last season.

Opponents Las Palmas have started this season in fine form, cruising to three wins from their first four games and scoring 11 goals in the process, the only blemish on their record being a 2-1 defeat away to Sevilla. Away from home, they have lost four of their last five in La Liga, although three of those defeats came during last season`s run-in.

Quique Setien`s team have impressed many observers with their expansive and open style of play and will certainly be one of the teams to watch in the race for European place this term. They currently sit in fourth place with a total of nine points, just three point behind leaders Real Madrid.

Team news

The home side will have to make do without the injured Toño and Agirretxe, and the suspended Joseba Zaldúa.

Meanwhile, the visitors have a full strength squad to choose from.

Betting odds and tips

There was a time not so long ago when Las Palmas did not know how to win away from their island home. That all changed when Quique Setien arrived last season and led the side to four away wins in row, their first in La Liga since 2001.

They already have one away to their name this term, a 4-2 victory in Valencia, and they won the equivalent of this fixture in San Sebastian back in March (0-1). Another tight game can be expected but Las Palmas are in great form and look good value for the win.
