Premier League

The Odyssey Arena in Belfast is the home for Premier League Darts in week three and action gets underway (19:15) as Robert Thornton takes on Gary Anderson in a battle of Scotland. Despite tipping up Anderson last week I was blown away by how good his game looked in a 7-2 demolition of Simon Whitlock. The Scot averaged 98.13 the third highest of the night and he appeals at 11/10 (STAN JAMES/betway/william hill) against an opponent who has lost both games so far and has a doubles hit rate of just 21.73%.

The second game of the evening sees Michael van Gerwen take on Dave Chisnall (20:00). Mighty Mike is one of just two players who has won their first two games (the other is Adrian Lewis) and the Dutchman is as short as 4/9 (GENERAL) for victory here. His opponent has made a better start than many anticipated beating Robert Thornton in week 1 and drawing with Peter Wright in week 2. The price suggests that the Dutchman should walk through this game and that might not be the case so take Chsinall with a 2.5 start on the handicap at evens (sportingbet) would pay out even on a 7-5, 7-6 loss. Mighty Mike only beat Thornton 7-5 last week while Chisnall has won two of the last three encounters so has nothing to fear.

Two weeks in, no points won and just three legs gained it has been a nightmare start from Phil Taylor and he will hope to get himself back on track when he faces Peter Wright in the third game of Thursday night (20:45). The Power is 4/6 (GENERAL) for the victory against an opponent he has played seven times and beaten seven times previously. Wright though is unlikely to be phased as the World Championship final appearance seems to have skyrocketed his confidence. Snakebite has three points from his two games so far and can be backed at 11/4 (GENERAL) for victory. This looks a tough game to call as we can not be sure what is going on with the Power as his scoring average is still high (second highest last week) so it is best to leave from a match betting point of view and enjoy it as a neutral.

Two games two wins for Adrian Lewis including an excellent performance over Phil Taylor last week. This week he is up against Wes Newton who was victorious over Raymond van Barneveld in week two. Jackpot is just 1/2 (STAN JAMES/william hill) for victory while Newton can be backed at 9/2 (betway). These two have met 27 times before and Lewis leads 16-11 including wins in the last three straight though Newton did beat him in the Premier League last season. Lewis to cover the handicap could be a popular bet but instead I will invest my money in Jackpot at 3/1 (william hill) to top the table. He is playing excellent so far and seems motivated to show himself week in week out this season.

The final game of the evening sees Raymond van Barneveld take on Simon Whitlock. The Dutchman is the 4/5 (GENERAL) favourite as he looks to bounce back from a second week defeat to Wes Newton. Whitlock meanwhile has been poor so far picking up just three legs from his two games and can be backed at 5/2 (GENERAL) while the draw is 9/2 (GENERAL). The best bet here is to take Barney to have the most 180s as he can blow hot at times and has seven so far this tournament while Whitlock has just three. The Dutchman can be taken with in this market at odds of 6/5 (GENERAL).
