No doubt about the tie of the night Tuesday and that is the game from the Eithad that sees Man City take on Barcelona (19:45, ITV). The Spanish side are the 6/4 (GENERAL) favourites for the game as these two sides do battle in the Champions League for the first time. The Catalans though have won just one of their last six away games in this competition and have not won away in any of their last five visits to England. City lost at home to Bayern in the Group stages though that represented their only loss in their previous 23 European fixtures in Manchester. In addition the blue half of Manchester are unbeaten in four previous home games with Spanish opponents. Their record at the Etihad has been incredible this season with 18 wins from 20 home games in all competitions. City then might offer some appeal at 19/10 (888 SPORT/unibet) while the draw is a 13/5 (bet365/BETVICTOR) chance.
In truth this is not an easy game to call from a match winning point of view and instead I will recommend a look to the various side markets on offer. The best of which is the 10/3 (STAN JAMES/william hill) on Pedro to score at anytime in this match. The Barcelona forward has nine in the last 14 games and will fancy his chances against a City defence that has kept just one clean sheet in their last 12 Champions League games. These two sides are known for their attacking play rather than their defending so this could be an explosive opening leg and bookmakers agree making it 8/15 (bet365/BETVICTOR) that both sides score and just 13/20 (bet365/BETVICTOR) the game has over 2.5 goals.
The other game of the evening sees Bayer Leverkusen take on PSG with the German side at home for the first leg (19:45-SKY SPORTS). The French side are the 13/10 (GENERAL) favourites for the opener and just 1/3 (GENERAL) to qualify for the quarter-finals. PSG eased through their qualifying campaign and away from home they netted ten times in their three group games, winning twice. The Ligue 1 leaders have lost just twice away from home all season and have failed to score on just one of these occasions. They look good things to get something from Leverkusen who were hammered 5-0 at home by Man United in the Group stages.
Bayer are second in the Bundesliga and will take heart from the fact that PSG have won on just two of their last six visits to Germany and a home record that has seen them win four and lose just one of their previous home games with French sides. If you think Leverkusen can use home advantage to their cause and get something from the first leg then you can back them to do so at 5/2 (bet365) while the same firm and BETVICTOR are also going 5/2 on the opening leg ending all square.
In addition to take PSG to come out on top of this tie it also makes sense to look at goalscorer options as I mentioned before they have an impressive record of netting away from home. Zlatan Ibrahimovic already has eight goals in the Champions League this season and he is 5/4 (BETVICTOR) to net at anytime. A better bet might be Ezequiel Lavezzi at 3/1 (888 SPORT/unibet) as with Cavani out injured the Argentina forward will be handed an advance role to feed off the Swede. Lavezzi netted in this role at the weekend and will fancy his chances against a Leverkusen defence that have kept just two clean sheets in their last ten Champions League home games.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: PSG to defeat Bayer Leverkusen, 13/10 (GENERAL)
SILVER: Ezequiel Lavezzi to score anytime v Leverkusen, 3/1 (888 SPORT/unibet)
BRONZE: Pedro to score anytime v Man City, 10/3 (STAN JAMES/william hill)
