Man City are 10/11 (GENERAL) favourites to lift the FA Cup following the draw for the last eight stage. City booked their place in the quarter finals with a 2-0 victory over Chelsea and now face a repeat of the 2013 Cup Final when they take on Wigan. The Latics face an even trickier task as they must now try to see off the Citizens not at a neutral venue but at their own ground. City are also 1/40 (BETVICTOR) to win any major trophy, 14/1 (ladbrokes/CORAL/william hill) to win no trophy and 33/1 (BETVICTOR/ladbrokes/CORAL) to win the quadruple.
Arsenal are the second favourites for the trophy at 3/1 (GENERAL) as the Gunners look to life their first silverware since lifting this trophy in 2005. Seeing off Liverpool was a huge boost to their season ahead of a midweek game with Bayern Munich and up next for the North London side is Everton.
It is the Toffees who are headline selection at 7/1 (bet365/SPREADEX) as in Roberto Martinez they have a man who knows what it takes to win the trophy. The Merseysiders are likely to come up short in the race for the Champions League so this competition represents their best chance of success for the season. When the last eight ties are played in March the Gunners could have the dual distractions of the Premier League and Champions League and might not be as up for the FA Cup as the Toffees are. Throw in the fact that Everton drew 1-1 here at the Emirates in the season and they represent decent value.
Other sides in the mix are Sunderland are 16/1 (GENERAL) who will face the winners of the Brighton (55/1-paddy Power) and Hull (5/1-ladbrokes) tie this evening (17th Feb). Sheffield United are in the last eight and are 100/1 (ladbrokes) and the Blades could face local rivals Sheff Wed (125/1-GENERAL) who must first see off Charlton (150/1-GENERAL) after their game Saturday was postponed.
The game Monday night sees Brighton entertain Hull at the Amex Stadium and the Seagulls are the 6/4 (GENERAL) favourites to see off the Tigers. Brighton have lost just one of their last 11 FA Cup home games and just three of their last 14 games in all competitions this season. At home Brighton are unbeaten in their last seven and have won each of their last four 1-0, if you fancy a repeat of that here then you can get 13/2 with ladbrokes.
Hull are 9/4 (BETVICTOR/SPREADEX) for the victory here that would put them in the last eight and a game against Sunderland. The Tigers will take heart from the fact that Brighton have won just two of their last 11 FA Cup games against top flight opponents. The Seagulls though did see off Newcastle here last season and give Arsenal a real game before going down 3-2 so will be tough opponents. If you think this game will end all square then you can back the draw at 12/5 (TOTESPORT/betfred) though a word of caution only four of the last 30 FA Cup fifth round games have gone on to become replays. This might be because at this stage of the season teams will go all out for the win rather than have to play again.
The best bet in this game might be in taking the tie to have over 2.5 goals at 6/4 (32 RED). The stats suggest this game might be low scoring though as talked about before with the lack of replays these games tend to encourage more attacking battles and four of the six ties played so far in the fifth round have seen over 2.5 goals. In addition take the 11/10 (GENERAL) on the YES in the both teams to score market
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Everton to win FA Cup, EW 7/1 (bet365/SPREADEX)
SILVER: Over 2.5 goals between Brighton and Hull, 6/4 (32 RED)
BRONZE: YES both teams to score between Brighton & Hull, 11/10 (GENERAL)
