Two wins from two games for Italy and Brazil means that both are assured of a place in the Confederations Cup semi-finals ahead of the last round of group fixtures. The battle is on for top spot though I suspect both managers will be tempted to rotate a number of players ahead of the final game. Bookmakers have Brazil at 4/6 (paddy Power/ladbrokes/CORAL) for victory which is understandable as they have won both games and looked in form. That being said though Italy have also won both their games and odds of 21/4 (BETVICTOR) an Italian victory and 3/1 (BETVICTOR) the draw look generous. Italy too have won both games and have lost just one of their last 13 games. The ITALY/DRAW is 7/5 (SPREADEX) and this looks the way to play it as this covers the draw which would suit both sides.

The other game in this group is between Japan and Mexico which has no meaning to it. The Asian side are the 8/5 (boylesports) favourites for the game while Mexico are 2/1 (BWIN) and the draw is 5/2 (bet365/BETVICTOR). It looks a tough game to predict with neither sides having much too play for. Japan have probably been the better side in this competition though the prices look a little restrictive. I think the best way to play this is in the goalscorer markets is by backing Shinji Kagawa in the goalscorer markets and he is 9/1 (GENERAL) to score first and is 7/2 (TOTESPORT/betfred) to score at anytime. The Man United player netted in the last game and is value to repeat here.

In the other group Tahiti take on Uruguay and the South Americans are expected to win easy after their opponents have been hit by 16 in their two games so far. The correct score market will be popular with those looking for a bet with 7-0 and 8-0 heading the betting at 15/2 (bet365/paddy Power) while 6-0 is 17/2 (bet365). Again it is another difficult to bet on as the South Americans can and should win easier. Luis Suarez is 7/4 (paddy Power) to net a hat-trick while Diego Forland and Edison Cavani are 21/10 (paddy power) to grab three goals each.

The other game in that group sees Nigeria taking on Spain with the African side knowing that they need a victory against the World and European Champions to have a chance of qualifying for the last four. Nigeria can be backed at 12/1 (sportingbet/SPREADEX) for victory while the draw is available at 5/1 (bet365) and a Spain victory is 3/10 (GENERAL). I would expect Spain to make a number of changes for the game and I think the value can be had in taking Roberto Soldado to get among the goals. The Valencia striker did not feature against Tahiti but has scored in his last two internationals and 12 in his last 12 in all competitions. Soldado is 9/2 (ladbrokes) for grabbing the first goal and is 6/5 (ladbrokes) that he scores at anytime.

In terms of the outrights for the competition Spain are the market leaders at 13/10 (paddy power/ladbrokes) while Brazil are 6/4 (GENERAL) chances. Italy can be backed at 6/1 (GENERAL), Uruguay are 14/1 (GENERAL) chances and Nigeria are the 250/1 (SKYBET/BWIN) outsiders.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Italy/Draw double chance v Brazil, 7/5 (SPREADEX)
SILVER: Roberto Soldado to score anytime v Nigeria, 6/5 (ladbrokes)
BRONZE: Shinji Kagawa to score anytime v Mexico, 7/2 (TOTESPORT/betfred)
