Bayern Munich v VfL Wolfsburg - Match preview and odds

19:00pm - Allianz Arena

Bundesliga

The Bundesliga kicks off early this week with four Tuesday night games including an intriguing clash between league favourites Bayern Munich and unbeaten third-placed side VfL Wolfsburg.

A perfect start for Bayern

With maximum points and just two goals conceded after five games you would expect Bayern Munich to be top of the Bundesliga. However, thanks to a superior goal difference, the top spot is currently occupied by in-form rivals Borussia Dortmund.

With Dortmund in such fine form, Pep Guardiola will be keen for his side to maintain their 100% record with a home win on Tuesday night. Even at this early stage of the season, dropped points could prove to be very costly in the race for the title. As well as starting off well in the league, the reigning champions also strolled to a 3-0 victory in their Champions League opener against Olympiacos.

Bayern will not be taking anything for granted in this match as they know how dangerous their opponents can be. They went down 4-1 to Wolfsburg at the end of last season and in August they lost to the Saxony team on penalties in the German Super Cup.

Wolfsburg on the prowl

After winning their first ever DFB-Pokal crown by beating Borussia Dortmund back in May, Wolfsburg then added a German Super Cup trophy to their cabinet for the first time by defeating Bayern on penalties. With three pieces of domestic silverware secured in the last six years, Dieter Hecking’s team are now out to prove that they can remain a strong force in German football alongside their more established rivals.

Team news

Bayern are still without key men Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben while Mehdi Benatia and Holger Badstuber will also miss out.

Wolfsburg striker Das Bost came off the bench to score both goals in the win against Hertha Berlin last weekend but his attitude in training has caused the boss to question his inclusion for this game. His absence could mean another start for former Arsenal front man Nicklas Bendtner.

Elsewhere, Luiz Gustavo and Robin Knoche both remain doubtful however, Veirinha may return to the line up after recovering from a knee injury.

Betting odds and tips

Betting on Bayern to win at home in the Bundesliga never provides much value - whoever they are playing. This is reflected in a best price of 3/10 available for a home win with betfred. Wolfsburg may be third in the league just four points behind their opponents but they are a huge 12/1 to win on Tuesday night with the draw priced at a hefty 11/2.

It is hard to see anything other than a home win here and Bayern should win by one or two goals. You can back Guardiola’s men to win by a two goal margin at 3/1 with bet365 or by a one goal margin at the same price.

If Wolfsburg do pull off an upset it is likely to be by a single goal, they can be backed at a massive 38/1 to win 1-0 with 888sport or at 22/1 to win to nil with bet365. How brave are you feeling?
