Premier League preview and odds: Liverpool vs Hull City

September 24 , 2016 15:00pm - Anfield Stadium

Premier League

Liverpool will play their second game in front of their newly-developed Main Stand when they host 12th-ranked Hull City in the Premier League on Saturday.

Red showing signs that they are the real deal

Only the shock defeat away to Burnley has prevented Liverpool from being mentioned in the Premier League title conversation. But their performances since then have suggested that they need to be taken seriously.

The Reds have already played Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea away from home and amassed seven points from a possible nine in those fixtures. In addition, they handed out a 4-1 thrashing to reigning champions Leicester and even in the game against Burnley, they dominated the game with 80% possession.

Jugen Klopp has finally assembled a team in his own image and the signs are that the project is finally coming together. Daniel Sturridge seems to be learning that there is no place for a conventional No. 9 in Klopp`s set up and that he must learn to adapt in order to make the starting XI, while Mane and Wijnaldum seem to be the type of players that Klopp would have built to order given half a chance.

The main improvement for the Reds has come in the final third where they now seem able to add some final product to their often delicious build-up play.

Meanwhile, after a flying start that had them lurking near the top of the table, Hull City have been brought back down to earth with bang. One point from their last three fixtures has left the Yorkshire club languishing in 12th place, eight points behind the league leaders. As a result, the club has quickly regained their pre-season status as relegation candidates.

After losing 1-4 at home to Arsenal last week, the Tigers will not be relishing a trip to Anfield to face a team that has already scored 11 goals this term.

Team news

Emre Can is expected to make the bench for the home side who are still without Sheyi Ojo and Joe Gomez,

Meanwhile, the visitors will have to cope without the injured group of Brian Lenihan, Greg Luer, Alex Bruce, Moses Odubajo, Michael Dawson and Allan McGregor.
