Premier League preview and odds: Manchester United vs Leicester City

September 24 , 2016 12:30pm - Anfield

Premier League

Manchester United will look to put the brakes on a two-game winless streak when they host reigning champions Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime.

United keen to avert crisis talk

A run of two straight defeats in the Premier League either side of a midweek Europa League setback in Holland has sparked talk of yet another crisis at Manchester United. Coach Jose Mourinho has also come under fire for some of his comments in the aftermath of those defeats.

The Red Devils at least got back to winning ways in midweek, overcoming League One side Northampton Town in the English League Cup to set up a Fourth Round clash with arch rivals Manchester City.

While much of the talk has been focused on whether the Portuguese boss has the ability to lift the Old Trafford club back to the top of English football, or whether he will cause them to implode - as happened at Chelsea last term - there has also been much discussion about the future of Wayne Rooney, with many observers believing that his constant inclusion is detrimental to the team.

Rooney played the full 90 minutes once again in midweek, so all eyes will be on Old Trafford on Saturday to see if the club Captain makes the starting XI once again.

Meanwhile, Leicester City come into this game on the back of an extra-time defeat Chelsea in the League Cup in which they ceded a two-goal lead before eventually falling 4-2.

Prior to that, Claudio Ranieri`s men enjoyed back-to-back 3-0 wins away to Club Brugge in the Champions League and at home to Burnley in the Premier League. A win on Saturday would see them leapfrog their opponents in the league table.

Team news

The home side will operate without the services of Luke Shaw, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Phil Jones.

Meanwhile, the visitors have injury issues of their own with Matthew James, Nampalys Mendy and Jeff Schlupp all undergoing treatment.

Betting odds and tips

Leicester City have lost both of their away games in the league this season but prior to that, they lost just two of their previous 22 games on the road. They have also scored at least once in all but one of their last 21 Premier League away matches.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have scored in each of their last 10 home games. This should be a close game with both teams likely to make a mark on the score sheet.
