Everton Good Value To Knock Out Swansea

Capital One Cup

Swansea City play host to Everton in one of three of tonight`s (23rd September, 7:45) all-Premier League Capital One Cup clashes. The Swans, who captured the trophy in the 2012/13 season, will be looking to improve on their third round exit at the hands of Birmingham City last time around. Meanwhile Everton, whose Europa League appearance has seen them receive a bye into the third round, will try to avenge their embarrassing defeat to then-League 1 Stevenage at the same stage in last year`s competition.

August`s Premier League Manager of the Month Garry Monk oversaw his Swansea side`s 1-0 home victory over Championship Rotherham in their preceding second round tie. New signing Bafetimbi Gomis hit the back of the net in the 22nd minute to grab his first goal in the all white of his new club and send them through to the next stage of the competition.

The win has complimented a solid Premier League start for the Welsh outfit who have accumulated nine points in their first five games, leaving them in fifth position in. The Toffees have earned five points from five and lie in an underwhelming 14th position. The clubs are yet to meet in the league though Swansea will travel up to Goodison Park on 1st November for the pair`s first encounter of the campaign.

Tonight, the home side have been made the 6/4 (bet365, Betvictor, william hill) favourites whilst betfred have slow-starting Blues 9/4 to progress through to the fourth round. A number of bookmakers are offering odds of 5/2 on the match being tied at the end of 90 minutes.

These odds on an Everton victory look particularly enticing with the away team buoyant after a pair of key players look set to return after absences with long-term injuries.

Dependable left-back Bryan Oviedo could make his first appearance for the club since breaking his leg in the team`s 4-0 FA Cup triumph over Stevenage back in January. The break, caused whilst blocking a shot from Boro`s Simon Heslop, was a cruel blow for the 24-year-old who missed playing his part in Costa Rica`s successful World Cup campaign in June. His country upset the Group D applecart and progressed all the way through to the Quarter-Finals for the first time in their history. Jorge Luis Pinto`s men were eventually toppled by the Netherlands on penalties after a hard-fought 0-0 draw.

Tonight may also see the return of striker Arouna Kone, who played his first game behind-closed-doors last week after being sidelined for over a year with a knee injury. The Ivory Coast star underwent surgery after suffering the setback coming off the bench in the side`s Premier League game against Hull last October. Kone is best priced 9/4 (betfred, Totesport) to kick his comeback off in style with a goal at any time against Swansea.

The red card received by Wilfried Bony that thwarted Swansea`s attempt to overturn high-flying Southampton in last Saturday`s Premier League meeting will mean that Kone`s Ivory Coast countryman will not be eligible for selection for this Capital One Cup clash. His replacement is likely to be Rotherham match-winner Gomis who has been priced up at 19/10 (betfair, ladbrokes) to hit the back of the net at any time during the game.

Young Tottenham loanee Tom Carroll may also be called upon as the Swans look to make it a miserable return to the Liberty Stadium for former manager Roberto Martinez. The 22-year-old made his first start in white in the victory over Rotherham but has yet to trouble the starting line-up in Swansea`s first five Premier League games. The same can be said of impact substitute Jefferson Montero, whilst fully recovered Marvin Emnes looks to make his first start after a meniscal problem.
