Tottenham vs. Manchester City - Betting preview and odds

September 26, 2015 12:45pm - White Hart Lane

Premier League

The next round of Premier League matches kicks-off on Saturday lunchtime as Tottenham Hotspur play host to high-flying Manchester City in London.

Spurs unbeaten in five

Spurs will move to within three points of their pace-setting opponents if they can beat them at White Hart Lane on Saturday. Mauricio Pochettino’s men picked up their second win of the season last weekend when they overcame a tricky Crystal Palace side on home turf. That win means that the Londoners are now unbeaten in five games heading into this weekend’s clash.

With the return of Christian Eriksen and the emergence of South Korean forward Son Heung-min, Spurs seem to have recovered from their early season wobbles and could make life difficult for their visitors from the north. Erik Lamela also repaid his Coach’s faith with another fine display last weekend.

A week to forget for City

While West Ham must take a huge amount of credit for inflicting a first league defeat on City last weekend, Manuel Pellegrini will still be rueing the fact that his team did not make more of their chances.

After conceding two goals in the first half hour, the Citizens dominated the rest of the match but were unable to find more than a single goal in reply. A combination of wayward finishing from the home side and some polished defending from the Hammers finally put an end to City’s 100% league record.

The loss topped off what was a miserable week for the Manchester side who also lost at home to Juventus in the Champions League. They went some way towards addressing their mini-slump in form by comfortably defeating Sunderland away from home in the League Cup on Tuesday.

Team news

For Spurs, Eriksen looks set to start in place of Chadli while the rest of the line-up should remain unchanged.

Vincent Kompany will face a late fitness test for City while Wilfried Bony, Samir Nasri, Eliaquim Mangala and David Silva could all be available for selection after recovering from various injury issues. However, City boss Manuel Pellegrini will have to make do without Fabian Delph, Pablo Zabaleta and Gael Clichy who are all still injured.

Betting odds and tips

History is not on Spurs’ side in the fixture: In the last nine meetings between the two, City have won eight with the North Londoners restricted to just a single victory. The Manchester team has taken maximum points in the last four encounters between the sides.

It could be a difficult afternoon for Pochettino’s team and that is reflected in the 3/1 price available for the home team with several bookmakers. An away win is the most likely result and you will do well to get much better than the 10/11 available from bet365.

To achieve the best value look at the Asian Handicap market. You can back Man City -1.00 at 7/4 with 888sport or unibet.
