Premier League preview and odds: Sunderland vs Crystal Palace
September 24 , 2016 15:00pm - Stadium of Light
Premier League
Winless Sunderland will look to lift some of the gloom that has descended on the Stadium of Light in recent weeks, when a resurgent Crystal Palace side make the long trip north for Saturday`s Premier League clash.
Tough start for Moyes on Wearside
Taking over a side that narrowly escaped relegation last season was always going to be a tough challenge for David Moyes, but it could rapidly turn into a disaster if the former Man United boss cannot get his side firing on all cylinders this weekend.
After five games, Sunderland have just one point to their name and have rarely looked like winning a game. Last time out, they were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham Hotpsur but the narrow score-line was hugely flattering to the Black Cats who barely threatened. Prior to that, they were trounced 3-0 in their own backyard by Moyes` former club Everton. This weekend they face a team that has finally emerged from a slump of their own.
Until recently, Crystal Palace were one of the Premier League`s worst-form teams of 2016. However, a run of one draw and two wins has given Alan Pardew`s men a much-needed boost. Their revival seems to have coincided with the arrival of record signing Christian Benteke whose mere presence has given the whole club a lift.
The Eagles come into this game on the back of consecutive wins away to Middlesbrough (2-1) and Stoke City (4-1). The win at Boro was their first away success of 2016 and they will be hoping to follow it up with another this weekend when they face one of only two winless teams in the league.
Team news
David Moyes will have to make do without the injured group of Billy Jones, Vito Mannone, Fabio Borini and Seb Larsson.
Meanwhile, the visitors have similar concerns with Pape Souare, Yohan Cabaye, Frazier Campbell and Loic Remy all on the crocked list.
Recent form (League)
Sunderland: LLDLL
Crystal Palace: WWDLL
Betting odds and tips
There have been very few indications that Sunderland are about to put the brakes on their poor run of form. In stark contrast, Palace look like a team that is finally emerging from the shadows after a tough few months.
As a result, Pardew`s men look well-priced to grab their third win on the trot.
