Man City are the 1/2 (BETVICTOR) favourites for the League Cup final which is scheduled to take place on Sunday March 2nd from Wembley Stadium. It will be a major shock if the blue half of Manchester are not in the final after a comprehensive 6-0 first leg defeat of West Ham who are now the 1500/1 (bet365/boylesports) outsiders.
These two teams meet on Tuesday (21st) night (19:45, SKY SPORTS) as the London side will look to at least attempt to restore some pride following that result. The Hammers can be backed at 7/1 (bet365/BETVICTOR/william hill) to win the second leg and hand Man City their first defeat in 17 matches in all competitions.
City are 2/5 (GENERAL) the victory as they look to hand the Hammers an eighth defeat from their last ten home games. Manuel Pellegrini is likely to rotate his side with an FA Cup and a Premier League tie to come within the week although City have a huge squad depth so this should not cause them too many problems.
The First Goalscorer market is headed by Sergio Aguero at 16/5 (BETVICTOR) who has netted twice in two brief off the bench appearances since returning from injury and is just 8/11 (boylesports/STAN JAMES/CORAL) to score at anytime. boylesports and STAN JAMES are going evens that Alvaro Negredo nets while william hill are offering the same price on Edin Dzeko. Who ever starts for City they have goals in them and they can be backed at 23/20 (william hill/CORAL) to score over 2.5 goals and seeing as they hit West Ham for six in the opener this has to be the way to play it. City score for fun and know no other way to play than to attack and have scored three or more goals in 14 of their last 20 games in all competitions.
The second semi-final takes place Wednesday (22nd) and features Man United at home to Sunderland (19:45, SKY SPORTS). Following an FA Cup exit and defeat at Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday this game is now a must win for the Red Devils if they are to have any hope of silverware from the first season (and possibly last) season under David Moyes. The Red Devils are 12/5 (BWIN/SKYBET) to win the League Cup though they must first get through an in form Sunderland who are 10/1 (ladbrokes/BWIN) to lift the trophy and are as big as 2/1 (william hill) to make the final despite holding a 2-1 first leg advantage.
On the night United are 4/11 (GENERAL) for the victory as they look to continue a run of home form that has seen them win seven of their last 11. The Red Devils though will be playing under huge pressure so the odds look far too big. The Black Cats meanwhile are playing with freedom and style under new manager Gus Poyet and for them this trophy is merely a welcome side distraction from the real business of staying in the Premier League. Sunderland are now unbeaten in their last five games away from home and they have to be worth a little interest at 23/10 (paddy Power/BWIN) with the draw in the double chance market while the 2/1 on them to progress also looks of interest. In addition I could not put anyone off a little bet on Adam Johnson to expose the United weakness at full-back with a strong showing on the flanks. Johnson can be backed at a generous 21/1 (BETVICTOR) to score first and 13/2 (BETVICTOR/888 SPORT/unibet) to net at anytime and after scoring five in his last four he has to be worth a little interest.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Sunderland to make the League Cup final, 2/1 (WILLIAM HILL)
SILVER: Sunderland/draw double chance v Man Utd, 23/10 (paddy Power/BWIN)
BRONZE: Man City to score over 2.5 goals. 23/20 (WILLIAM HILL/CORAL)
