Mauricio Pochettino takes his Tottenham side to his old stomping ground, Southampton, as both clubs look to secure themselves a place in the top five in the Premier League. His Whites side currently sit in sixth in the top tier of English football, level on points with Liverpool but with an inferior goal difference. Should Tottenham beat the Saints and the Merseyside club lose away at West Bromwich Albion, Spurs will take fifth position. They would also potentially close the gap on fourth placed Manchester City to four points. City host FA Cup finalists Aston Villa in tomorrow`s evening fixture.

As Southampton are just one point and one place off Pochettino`s men in the league, they would be able to usurp them with a victory. Indeed Liverpool would also fall below them with an inferior result at the Baggies. Should either Ronald Koeman`s hosts or Pochettino`s visitors fail to pick up all three points tomorrow, they will all but call time on their top five ambitions.

These two clubs have met once in the league already this season, this being in the reverse fixture at White Hart Lane. On this occasion just one goal separated the two sides, Christian Eriksen bagging the crucial goal just five minutes from the half time whistle.

Whilst bet365 have the best price of 11/1 on Tottenham winning by one goal to nil once again, both betfair and Spreadex have 11/2 on the Whites beating the Saints by any number of goals without reply. paddy Power have 9/2 on Spurs securing all three points by hitting just one more goal than their opponents with Eriksen a 10/1 (bet365, betfair, boylesports) chance to open the scoring.

Despite the North London side`s superior league position and their previous good form over the Hampshire club, it is Southampton who are the favourites to take the win from tomorrow`s match by any means. Koeman`s men can be backed at the best price of 23/20. This price is available at william hill. Contrarily, Betvictor have a massive price of 3/1 on Tottenham being able to do the double over their rivals for European football. A draw, that would be useful to neither side, is available at 5/2 with most bookmakers.

Although Southampton`s recent form has been mixed, seeing them earn just one win from their last three games, their home form is good and has seen them take a maximum of nine points from their last three games at St Marys. Indeed they have not conceded a home goal for 270 minutes and can be backed at 13/8 (bet365) to keep another clean sheet tomorrow. Spreadex`s 9/2 says that the Hampshire outfit can rack up their fourth consecutive win to nil against Spurs.

Southampton have scored five goals in their winning streak at home, though not one player has scored more than one goal in this period. Indeed the Saints have been somewhat fortunate in some of the goals they have bagged with Jason Shackell putting the ball into the back of his own net in their 2-0 win at Burnley and James Ward-Prowse breaking the deadlock through a penalty in their 2-0 victory over Hull.

All of bet365, paddy Power and william hill have 8/1 on either one of the sides hitting an own goal with William Hill`s 10/3 saying that a penalty will be awarded during Saturday`s clash.

Like Southampton, Spurs have picked up just one win in their last three games though their record on the road is not much better. Pochettino`s men have accumulated 7 points from four away matches, scoring just five goals. Coral have 5/2 on the Whites bagging over 1.5 goals tomorrow.
