Stoke vs. Bournemouth - Betting preview and odds

September 26, 2015 15:00pm - Britannia Stadium

Premier League

Winless Stoke City welcome new kids on the block Bournemouth to the Britannia Stadium in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday.

Listless Stoke without a win

Three losses and three draws in their first six games have condemned Stoke to a place in the league’s bottom three. Mark Hughes’ team seemed to make real progress last season and after some eye-catching signings in the summer their fans had a real sense of optimism ahead of the new campaign.

With a home game against one of the newly-promoted teams to look forward to, the Potters will be hoping for a win to ignite their season. They were left frustrated last weekend after they threw away a two goal lead at home to Leicester, and Mark Hughes will be keen to avoid a repeat of that sloppy second half display.

Bournemouth competing well

Bournemouth may be the minnows of the league but have not disgraced themselves during their opening six games. They cruised past Sunderland last weekend to earn their second win of the campaign and are currently nestled between Liverpool and Chelsea in the league table.

As well as having picked up two good wins and a draw, Eddie Howe’s team also put in an impressive display at Anfield in the second game week and were unlucky not to come away from Merseyside with a point.

Team news

Stoke are still without Ryan Shawcross but Mame Diouf could return to the fold.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth have no new injury concerns but are still without long-term absentees Tyrone Mings, Max Gradel and Harry Arter. Of those three, only Arter is likely to be available again this year.

Betting odds and tips

Before the season, much was made of the Champions League pedigree within the Stoke City squad. In fact, with Marko Arnautović, Ibrahim Affelay, Bojan Krkic, Marc Muniesa and Xherdan Shaqiri on the books, they started the season with more Champions League winners than Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City combined.

With such talent at their disposal, it can surely be just a matter of time before the team from Staffordshire start to click.

The bookies have made the home team the slight favourites, albeit by a very slim margin. However, the draw looks like the choice bet in this game and can be backed at 27/11 with Marathon bet.

If you can’t choose between the two teams, take a look at the goal scorer markets. Bournemouth have scored five goals away from home this season and top scorer Callum Wilson can be backed at 19/10 with Ladbrokes to find the net anytime.
