Just one game takes place in the Championship in midweek as Charlton take on Doncaster, though before we get to that here is a guide to a standout bet in the outright markets.
Three sides top of the Championship table with 35 points from 16 games, Burnley, QPR and Leicester. Bookmakers make the Hoops the 21/20 (boylesports) favourites. If you asked me to pick one of the three I would likely pick QPR though I don’t think the odds offer value. Leicester are second in the betting at 4/1 (GENERAL) while Burnley are 8/1 (GENERAL).
Already these three sides have a little gap of seven points to the others in the division and although they are plenty of games to play, no side in the chasing pack appears to be putting enough of a run together to make you think they can pull in these three.
One side I like the look of to finish in the top six are Bolton who are 5/1 (SKYBET/BETVICTOR/paddy Power). The Trotters are up into 15th after a slow start and now sit just seven points from the play-offs. A win at Watford on Saturday continued their great form which is now eight games unbeaten including victories in each of their last three. Dougie Freedman showed last season that he is capable of taking this side on a big run of form and with two thirds of the season to go it is still all to play for. It might also be worth a little interest on the 14/1 (bet365/SKYBET/paddy Power) on them to be promoted.
Charlton and Doncaster are two sides at the wrong end of the table and bookmakers have Donny as 9/4 (BETVICTOR) fourth favourites for the drop with Charlton the 7/2 (GENERAL) fifth favourites.
Both teams will need three points in their game on Tuesday night to put distance between themselves and the bottom three. Charlton are the bookmakers favourites at evens (betfred/paddy power) as they are at home. The Addicks though are without a win in their last five league home games, drawing three and losing two. Then again the visitors have won just one of their seven away league away games this season which came against Sheffield Wednesday. If you think Doncaster can get something then you can back them to at 13/4 (betway) while the draw is available at 13/5 (bet365/BETVICTOR).
This looks a difficult game to predict in terms of the match results and as such it might make sense to look at a bet in one of the side markets. I could make a case for the NO at evens (boylesports/betway) as the combined last 17 matches of games involving either of this par have seen 12 finish scoreless. So a strong case could be made for this one to finish with one or both sides failing to find the net.
The best bet in this game though comes in the anytime scorer market where I lie the look of Jordan Cousins to score at odds of 7/1 (BOYLESPORTS). The Charlton player has only found the net once this season though I think he is on the verge of a breakout. He was one of the few bright spots for the Addicks in their 1-0 defeat to QPR on Saturday and went close to netting with a long range effort on Saturday, The highly rated 19-year-old will likely score again sooner or later and these odds could come tumbling down..
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Bolton to make the top six, 5/1 (SKYBET/BETVICTOR/paddy power)
SILVER: Bolton to be promoted, 14/1 (bet365/SKYBET/PADDY POWER)
BRONZE: Jordan Cousins to score anytime v Doncaster, 7/1 (BOYLESPORTS)
