Ronny the value in battle of the Huybrechts brothers

The second round of the Grand Slam of Darts continues on Thursday (14th) evening . The top section contains a number of big names with Phil Taylor as short as 4/7 (SKYBET) to make the final with Michael van Gerwen a 4/1 (SKYBET) chance, Adrian Lewis 9/1 (SKYBET) and James Wade available at 12/1 (SKYBET).

The opener on Thursday night sees Phil Taylor take on Gary Anderson and the Power is 1/7 (boylesports) to win the battle. Taylor eased through qualifying with three wins from three games and never averaged under 104. The Englishman has won 22 of the 28 previous meetings between the pair though Anderson has won two of the last three including victory over him in the Premier League Darts. Anderson produced a remarkable 111.80 average to see off Peter Wright 5-1 in the final group game and he is 11/2 (paddy Power/SPREADEX) to register the shock upset here. You never know what you will get with the Scot especially with his issues on the double so while this could be a fascinating game to watch it might be one to miss betting wise.

The second game of the evening (21:10) sees James Wade take on Paul Nicholson. The Machine is the strong favourite for the match at 1/3 (GENERAL) after winning all three of his group games and winning five of the six previous meetings between the pair. The Asset can take heart from victories in qualifying over Kevin Painter and Stuart Kellett though I do worry about his brittleness in the bigger games against bigger players.

The best bet might be in taking Nicholson to get the most 180s as this gets him onside and eliminates the problems the Australian/Geordie has with the doubles. In the last group match Nicholson hit two 180s and Wade not a single one, so take 11/8 (SKYBET/BETVICTOR).

The Huybrecht brothers do battle in the third game with family loyalty set to be split between the siblings. While I think Kim is more talented than his brother Ronny I think the gap between the pair is not that great in current form and Kim is much too short at 1/3 (GENERAL). Ronny won his group defeating former World Champions in Adrian Lewis and Christian Kist while brother Kim won just one of his three matches and that was against an off form Vincent van der Voort. boylesports are going 6/5 on Ronny in the handicap market with a 2.5 start and this looks generous.

No doubt about the game of the night though and that is the one that pits Michael van Gerwen up against Adrian Lewis. Bookmakers have the Dutchman as the 8/13 (sportingbet/william hill) favourite for the game as he leads the head-to-head record 10-8. Lewis though has won three of the last four meetings and fears nobody on his day. Jackpot is an 11/8 (GENERAL) chance and this might be a little generous. These two are great players with a never say die attitude and this game could be an epic battle. Therefore, it makes sense to take this game to go over 16.5 legs which can be backed at the generous price of evens with SKYBET.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Ronny Huybrechts +2.5 v Kim Huybrechts, 6/5 (boylesports)
SILVER: Over 16.5 legs in van Gerwen and Lewis match, evens (SKYBET)
BRONZE: Paul Nicholson most 180s v Wade, 11/8 (SKYBET/BETVICTOR)
