The second half of the Premier League 3pm kick-offs preview looks at the games involving the North Eastern sides as Newcastle host Norwich and Sunderland travel to Stoke. Here is our guide to the best of the bets from these matche.

Newcastle are 4/5 (BETVICTOR/WINNER/SPREADEX) to see off Norwich in front of their own fans on Saturday. The Magpies are going well at the moment with three wins, a draw and a defeat from their last five games in the Premier League. The last two games have seen them take an impressive four points from Tottenham and Chelsea. Up against a Norwich side with seven defeats from their last nine away games in the league the Magpies will be a popular bet.

The Canaries boss Chris Hughton probably owes West Ham keeper Jussi Jaskelainen a Christmas card after it was his mistake that helped Norwich turn a 1-0 scoreline into a 3-1 victory and in the process likely saved Hughton his job. Norwich were poor for an hour or so before the gifted penalty seemed to spark them into life. Confidence is a funny thing in football and that result could be the turning point Norwich need to get their season going. Considering Hull have won at Newcastle this season and West Ham have picked up a point it is not beyond Norwich to get something. I think the Canaries and the draw at 19/17 (888 SPORT/unibet) in the doube chance market looks worth taking. Loic Remy has been in great form this season and the forward could appeal to some at 6/5 (GENERAL) to score anytime having netted in his last two Premier League games. The better bet though is is Norwich player Johnny Howson who is a value 11/1 (SPREADEX) to score anytime. The Canaries midfielder has already netted twice this season with both goals coming away from home and he is often given the most licence to get forward of any of the Canaries midfielders.

After a seemingly promising start to the season Stoke seem to be getting sucked into the relegation battle while after a seemingly hopeless start to the season Sunderland are suddenly starting to believe they can reach safety.

Stoke are the 11/10 (BETVICTOR/WINNER/SPREADEX) favourites to defeat the Black Cats on Saturday. The Potters are not on a great run of form with their only win in their last ten in all competitions coming against League One side Tranmere in the League Cup. In the Premier League they have not won any of their last eight so 11/10 looks far too short.

Sunderland meanwhile are in better form and have picked up a little since the introduction of Gus Poyet. Poyet seems to have organzied his side and built up a little bit of spirit that was missing during the Di Canio era. The Black Cats have won three of their last four in all competitions with that one defeat coming in a game they were reduced to nine men in.

I think they look excellent value to get something from the game and they can be backed to do so at 31/10 (888 SPORT). Stoke have drawn four of their last five in all competitions so it makes sense to get the draw on side and you can do this at 11/13 (888 SPORT/unibet) in the draw/Sunderland on the double chance market.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Sunderland/draw in double chance market v Stoke, 11/13 (888 SPORT/unibet)
SILVER: Norwich/draw in double chance market v Newcastle, 19/17 (888 SPORT/unibet)
BRONZE: Johnny Howson to score anytime v Newcastle, 11/1 (SPREADEX)
