The Grand Slam of Darts reaches the knockout stages on Wednesday(13th) evening and here is our guide to the best of the bets available from the bottom half of the draw.

The first game of the evening sees Tony O’Shea take on Andy Hamilton with Hamilton the favourite for the match. The Hammer qualified for the last 16 by coming second in Group F

having lost his opener to Justin Pipe before seeing off Mark Walsh and Robert Thornton in the next two games. Hamilton has been averaging between 88 and 99 in his three matches and can be backed at 4/7 (SKYBET/ladbrokes) to defeat O’Shea.

O’Shea qualified for the knockout stages by coming top of his group having defeated Ricky Evans and Mervyn King and narrowly losing to Raymond van Barneveld. He is averaging between 95 and 102 and he can be backed at 7/4 (bet365/BETVICTOR) for victory. The second round matches are the best of 19 legs and going over 16.5 legs might be the way to play this game with CORAL and WINNER both offering 10/11 on the overs.

The second game of the night (21:10) is between Robert Thornton and Mervyn King two men who know each other well from the PDC Tour. Bookmakers make Thornton the 4/6 (ladbrokes) favourite though it is King who heads the head-to-head record 8-7 including a victory in two of the last three meetings. Over the three games both players have a similar average though King is actually averaging a much higher 100 (approx) from his last two matches. I think you should side with the King at odds of 10/11 (WINNER) with a 1.5 start on the handicaps.

The third game of the evening should be an entertaining one as Simon Whitlock takes on Ted Hankey. Bookmakers have Hankey at 4/1 (bet365) to see off the Wizard here and I can not give him much of a change. Whitlock was impressive in his first two matches seeing off Ross Smith and Mark Webster with near 100 three darts averages and dropping just three legs. He even throw a 97 three dart average in his final group game but went down to Wes Newton. The Australian is looking in good shape and I like him not just to get through this game but come through this section of the draw so take the 15/8 (SKYBET) to make it to the final.

The last game of the evening is Scott Waites against Mark Webster and Waites is the 4/7 (ladbrokes) favourite for the game. Waites qualified for the last 16 by beating Ted Hankey, Michael Smith and Dave Chisnall to become one of a few players to win all three of their opening games. Webster meanwhile needed to see off Dave Chisnall in a nine dart shootout to book his place in the knockout stages. Bookmakers make Webster the 7/4 (SKYBET/sportingbet/CORAL) outsider for the game though the Welshman though has won four of the five meetings between the pair including in the group stages last year. Throw in the fact that the three dart average is similar and he is value with a 1.5 start at evens (bet365) on the handicap.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Simon Whitlock to make the final, 15/8 (SKYBET)
SILVER: Mervyn King +1.5 on Handicap v Thornton, 10/11 (WINNER)
BRONZE: Mark Webster +1.5 on Handicap v Waites, Evens (bet365)
