Last weekend I had a tough journey to the in-laws (is there any other kind) in twenty five degrees heat. I pity the poor Formula One drivers (those poor millionaires) as they race in 37 degree heat Sunday as the season returns with the Hungary Grand Prix.
One man who welcome the heat is the ice-cold Finn Kimi Raikkonen. The Lotus driver and the Lotus car seem to be at their bet when the temperatures are at their highest. Raikkonen started the season well with four top two finishes from the first five races before the temperatures dropped. A rise in temperatures has coincided with a rise in performances for the Lotus. The Lotus cars both made the podium in Germany and but for a safety car issue they could have had the race winner. This is also a venue that the Finn loves as he came second here last year behind Lewis Hamilton to make it one win and four seconds from his last six here. He looks worth an interest then at 6/1 (betway) to win the race and certainly to finish on the podium at evens (ladbrokes) to finish on the podium.
Romain Grosjean in the other Lotus is someone who also merits an interest . The Frenchman was third in Germany last time showing some real race speed in a race that he might have won but for a safety car appearing at just the wrong time. Grosjean likes the Hungary track having come third here last year and he could be worth an interest at 20/1 (betway) to win the race and 4/1 (paddy Power/ladbrokes) for a podium finish.
You should also consider Lotus at 4/1 (sportingbet/188 BET) to be the highest scoring team, 6/5 (BWIN) on a double Lotus points score and the 8/1 (paddy Power) on a double podium finish.
The market for this race is of course headed by Sebastian Vettel as he seeks his fifth race of the season. The German is 6/4 (GENERAL) for victory though he has never won a Hungarian Grand Prix. Second is the best he has managed on five previous visits and on just two of his visits has he finished on the podium. The Red Bull always has to be respected though I think the price is too short especially with the heat.
Felipe Massa belives the Ferrari should be suited by the weather in Hungary and they did do well in the heat of Spain although they had a nightmare in Bahrain so that is inconclusive. If Ferrari is to do well here then it is unlikely to be Massa as he has finished no higher than sixth on his last four outings. Alonso is the main man though qualifying woes means he is still seeking his first win since that Spanish GP. The Spaniard is available at 6/1 (GENERAL) to win the race although it is not a price that interests me.
Although I do not expect them to win the race I think the Force India cars can go well this weekend. Sutil finished second in testing (behind Vettel) at Silverstone and he has three top ten finishes from his last four races. Di Resta meanwhile has finished top ten in six of his last seven drives and you can get 37/19 (BWIN) on a double points finish for the team.
The bet of the weekend though has to be Lewis Hamilton to start on pole position like he has done in each of the last two races and in this race last year. The British driver can be backed at 9/4 (paddy power/william hill) and I think this is a great bet.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Hamilton on pole position in Hungary GP, 9/4 (paddy power/william hill)
SILVER: Kimi Raikkonen to finish on the podium, evens (ladbrokes)
BRONZE: Kimi Raikkonen to win Hungary GP, 6/1 (BETWAY)
