Villa Look For Away Win At Newcastle

Premier League

Newcastle won`t be going anywhere, win, lose or draw at home to Aston Villa tomorrow but could pile the pressure on the likes of Stoke City and Swansea with a victory as the North East club look to break back into the top-half. On the other hand, a defeat for John Carver`s men could see their buffer over 12th placed Everton chopped to just one point, seeing them vulnerable to dropping down the table in the coming weeks.

Tim Sherwood has been unable to see Aston Villa escape the dreaded drop zone but could oversee this task with a win at St James Park. The Midlands side could replace QPR in 17th should they beat Newcastle and Burnley fail to see off Swansea and be level on points with Sunderland who take on Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Neither Aston Villa nor Newcastle could manage to score as the two clubs met at Villa Park in what was their only meeting of the season back in August. Their second game of the campaign, Newcastle were then under the guidance of Alan Pardew who since resigned to join up with Premier League rivals Crystal Palace whilst Villa were led by Paul Lambert before his sacking. Another goalless draw is available for backing at 8/1 at betway and Coral.

Their superior position means that the home side are the odds-on favourites for victory across the board. Almost all bookmakers are offering odds of 19/20 on the Magpies securing a home victory over the Villans. Betvictor have the best price on an away triumph with 18/5 saying that Sherwood will mastermind his first Premier League victory as Villa boss. A second successive draw between the two teams is available at 5/2 with a number of turf accountants.

Carver has been the manager of Newcastle United for eight games now, seven of these Premier League matches, and has seen his side pick up one win and three draws. They will also be looking to bounce back from the 5-0 thrashing they were dealt at the hands of reigning champions Manchester City last time out. This was, happily, the first time in five games that the club had failed to hit the back of the net and are 1/4 (Numerous) to score over 0.5 at home to Villa. Two draws and a defeat have been the team`s swag taken from their three home clashes under their new manager. Having scored five times in these encounters, at least one in each match, reaffirms the idea that the Magpies should be able to score past Brad Guzan in the Villa net.

The club`s top scorer from these games is midfielder Jack Colback who has grabbed two. Having scored in the second half in draws against Burnley (3-3) and Stoke (1-1) the 25-year-old is 15/2 (Stan James) to add to his tally at any time tomorrow.

Sherwood has only been in charge of the away side for one match, that ending in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Potters. The former England international will be without captain Ron Vlaar tomorrow as the Dutchman received a red card and gave away a penalty in the dying embers of the game, duly converted by Victor Moses.

Scott Sinclair had originally give Aston Villa, the home side, the lead before Mame Biram Diouf equalised just seconds before the half-time break.

Not only have Villa been unable to pick up a point in their last five Premier League matches away from home, they have also been unable to score. As a result a Newcastle win to nil can be backed at 21/10 whilst Villa to score over 0.5 can be supported at 13/20 (both Betvictor).
