Latics lack squad depth to compete on two fronts

You have to go ahead to Sunday for the best looking bet in the Championship where I like the look of Ipswich to get something from their visit to Wigan.

The Tractor Boys are in good form having taken seven points from their last three games which saw victories over Middlesbrough and Yeovil at Portman Road and a draw at Birmingham. This marked their first away point of the season after defeats at Reading and QPR though on both occasions Ipswich lost by just the one goal and played well.

Although Wigan saw off Notingham Forest at their own ground they have been held here by Doncaster and Middlesbrough in the league and Ipswich can take heart from this. They can also take heart from the fact that the Lancashire side were in action Thursday night in the Europa League in Belgium. At best the Wigan players were in their own bed in the very early hours of Friday morning and this is a tough schedule to keep up especially when they lack the squad depth of the big Premier League sides.

The best bet then is to side with Ipswich and the draw on the Asian Handicap at 24/23 (188 BET) which gives the visitors an 0.5 start and pays out on an Ipswich win or a draw.

Staying with this game and have a little interest on David McGoldrick to score anytime for Ipswich at 5/2 (SKYBET/ladbrokes). The front man has netted three times in his last four games and is up against a defence that has shipped five goals in three home games this season. Throw in the fact that McGoldrick is averaging over three shots per game and he looks a reasonable price to net again.

Speaking of anytime goalscorers I like the look of Lewis McGugan to score against Barnsley at Oakwell. The former Forest man has four goals already this season for Watford including two in his last game. McGugan will fancy his chances against a Barnsley side that has shipped 17 goals already this season, the worst record in the division. McGugan might play in midfield but he is given licence to get forward and is averaging close to four shots per game, the third highest in the division. He looks value then at 10/3 (SKYBET) to score at anytime.

The current leaders QPR are at Yeovil and you would think they would have few problems seeing off struggling Yeovil. I would exercise caution with this game though as the Glovers will treat this match like a cup final while the Hoops are struggling for goals relying on keeping clean sheets. A deflected shot or a penalty could see the London side behind and trying to chase the game which will not be easy at all. Second placed Leicester travel to third place Blackpool. The Foxes have won four of their last five games in the Championship though lost their last away game. Blackpool suffered their first defeat of the season at Millwall on Tuesday night though have won all three home games this season 1-0 including defeating Reading and Watford. This looks a tough game to call.

Bolton are the side currently bottom of the table and they travel to a Brighton side that have drawn each of their last three games.

The live Saturday lunchtime game is between London pair Charlton and Millwall at the Valley and we have previewed that in more detail in our Saturday live game guide though in brief we like the chances of the Addicks to take all three points at 13/10 (BETVICTOR).
