With leaders Leyton Orient not in action until Monday night (when they travel to Brentford) then the teams around them can try to close that five point gap at the top.
Wolves are away to a Shrewsbury side with just one defeat from their seven games this season so be careful in backing the Midlands side even at 21/20 (BETVICTOR/CORAL). Peterborough are another side who have made a good start to the season but they face an MK Dons side who are also going well and that looks a tough one to call.
The best bet in the division though comes from the game between Sheffield United and Preston at Bramall Lane. The visitors look great value at 23/20 (william hill) in the draw no bet market. Preston are unbeaten this season in the league and have won each of their last three netting eight and conceding just once in these games. The Blades meanwhile have had a bad start to the season and have taken just four points from their seven league games. The only game they have won at home was against ten-men Notts County on the opening dau and the Lilywhites look good to get something from this tie.
In League Two just two teams remain unbeaten, Chesterfield and Oxford and these two meet on Saturday at the Kassam Stadium. It is the visiting Spireites who bookmakers make the favourites at 7/4 (CORAL) while Oxford are 2/1 (bet365/BETVICTOR) and the draw is a 12/5 (SKYBET/BETVICTOR) chance. This looks a tough game to call and while it should be a fascinating watch it is not one I would wish to bet on.
Another big game in the fourth tier sees pre-season favourites Portsmouth and Fleetwood do battle at Fratton Park while fourth placed Exeter entertain Newport and AFC Wimbledon play host to Burton.
The best bet in this division comes in the anytime goalscorer market where Torquay frontman Jordan Chapell looks excellent value at 4/1 (bet365) to score at anytime. Chappell has three goals in five games at this level since his move from Sheffield United this summer. Up against a Cheltenham defence that is the worst in the league having conceded 15 goals in their seven league games so far this season.
Nuneaton are the shock early leaders in the Conference Premier with seven wins and two draws from their nine games. Kevin Wilkin is doing a remarkable job at the club against some of the more fashionable outfits as they look to play in the Football League for the first time.
This weekend they play host to ninth placed Salisbury and are 10/11 (bet365/BETVICTOR/SPREADEX) to get all three points. The game of the day in the division is the one that pitches fourth placed Lincoln away to Luton who have had a disappointing start by their standards and sit in 13th.
The best bet though comes in the game between Tamworth and Gateshead where I think the North Eastern side should be backed at 13/10 (betway) in the draw no bet market. Though Gateshead have lost their last two they have been a little unlucky to come up against Cambridge and Wrexham. Gateshead were level at half-time with the Welsh side before losing 3-0 but showed some encouraging signs and they also ran Cambridge close before going down 1-0. A trip to Tamworth should hold no fears as they have won just one of their last eight and one of their last five at home.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Preston to beat Sheff Utd in draw no bet market, 23/20 (william hill)
SILVER: Gateshead to beat Tamworth in draw no bet market, 13/10 (betway)
BRONZE: Jordan Chappell to score anytime v Cheltenham, 4/1 (bet365)
