Tony Mowbray was sacked as Middlesbrough manager this week after a run of form that saw just two wins from their last 15 league games. Mike Phelan, Alex McLeish and Ian Holloway are the leading names to take over the job though it will be caretaker boss Mark Venus who will take charge for the game this Friday night at home to Doncaster (19:45, SKY SPORTS).
Bookmakers make Middlesbrough the 4/5 (TOTESPORT/betfred) favourites for the game which looks much too short on a side who have won just one of their last seven home fixtures in the league. Four of the last five home games have ended drawn so this could be an option at 3/1 (bet365) while a Doncaster victory is 17/4 (BETVICTOR/888 SPORT/unibet).
Which ever manager takes the job will be delighted to have Albert Adomah at the club as he has looked a class act and with three goals in two games I like the look of him at 13/5 (bet365/BETVICTOR) in the anytime scorer market.
The live game on Saturday lunchtime is the Yorkshire derby at Oakwell between Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday. Both sides are struggling at the wrong end of the table with the Tykes 22nd and the Owls 23rd.
Barnsley are the 6/4 (GENERAL) favourites and have picked up four points from their last three games including a home victory against Middlesbrough last time out. Wednesday have drawn each of their last three and the game to end all square is priced at 12/5 (GENERAL) while all three points for the Owls is priced at 2/1 (BETVICTOR).
Miguel Llera has been one of the few standout performers for Wednesday this season and the defender is the second highest rated played with website whoscored.com from these two teams. It is important to note as this is the company BETVICTOR uses to settle the man of the match winning markets. The Spaniard then should not be 25/1 in the betting.
The big game of the weekend in the Championship is the top of the table clash between Burnley and QPR (Saturday, 15:00). These two sides sit one and two in the Championship and bookmakers are split as to who should be favourites. The Clarets are available at 17/10 (bet365/TOTESPORT/betfred) while the London outfit can be backed at 19/10 (BETVICTOR).
The draw could be a real option in this game as both sides have started the season so well and a point here could suit both, the game to finish level is available at 12/5 (GENERAL).
The best bet in the division this weekend comes from the game between Leicester and Bournemouth where I think the Cherries look value on the Asian Handicap with a 0.75 start against the Foxes.
This bet will pay out on a Bournemouth win and the game ending drawn and on a half loss if the Cherries lose by just one goal. Only one of the last 13 Foxes home games has seen the home side win by more than one goal. The visitors meanwhile have lost just one of their last four away and that was by just by one goal. They picked up a point at Forest and I think they are capable of doing so here at Leicester, so take the 11/10 (bet365).
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Bournemouth +0.75 on Asian Handicap v Leicester, 11/10 (BET365)
SILVER: Albert Adomah to score anytime v Doncaster, 13/5 (BET365/BETVICTOR)
BRONZE: Miguel Llera man of match Barnsley v Sheff Wed, 25/1 (BETVICTOR)
