Cumbrians the best bet in the Football League

It was Burnley who sat top of the Championship going into the international break and Sean Dyche must be applauded for doing a remarkable job so far this season after being forced to sell their best player in Charlie Austin and having limited money to spend. Up next for Burnley is a trip to Ipswich who have had to spend the international break with the worries that manager Mick McCarthy might be tempted to take the Republic of Ireland job once more. The game itself seems to be priced about right with the home side 6/4 (GENERAL) favourites, Burnley available at 2/1 (GENERAL) and the draw a 12/5 (chance).

In terms of match betting this is a very tricky looking week with a lot of the teams going well at short prices. QPR are evens (WILLIAMHILL) to win away at Millwall, Leicester are 7/10 (CORAL) to win at home to Huddersfield, Watford are 19/20 (GENERAL) to see off Derby, Forest are 8/11 (CORAL) to defeat Bournemouth and Reading are 8/11 (BETVICTOR/william hill) for a home victory over Doncaster. I like the look of Andrew Crofts in the anytime scorer market as the Brighton midfielder has grabbed three goals already this season and is averaging 2.5 shots per game. Opponents Yeovil shipped four last time out and a massive 9/1 (888 SPORT/unibet) appeals.

Tranmere sprung a bring shock in League One when seeing off Bradford last weekend and this weekend they welcome the league leaders Leyton Orient. Orient got back to winning ways last weekend with a victory over the MK Dons and are 21/20 (GENERAL) to win here. Peterborough are another side flying high in the division and they are just 8/13 (bet365/BETVICTOR/william hill) to win their home game with Shrewsbury while Wolves take on Coventry and they are available at 6/5 (BETVICTOR/WILLIAM HILL). The best bet in this division though comes in the game between Oldham and Carlisle where I fancy the Cumbrians to get something from their visit to Boundary Park. Since the sacking of manager Greg Abbott Carlisle have not looked back and are on a run of form that has seen them lose just one of their last seven league games. Thrown in the fact they are unbeaten in their last four league games away from home and take on an Oldham side with no win in their last six in the league and it has to be worth siding with Carlisle. The best way to do this is in the Asian Handicap market where given a 0.5 start they are 20/19 (BETVICTOR) and this will pay out on a Carlisle victory or if the game ends drawn.

Chesterfield are the leaders in League Two though they have now taken just one point from their last three games and offer no appeal at 8/11 (GENERAL) to see off Burton. The form side in the division is Morecambe who are now unbeaten in their last eight games and are 11/8 (BETVICTOR/WILLIAM HILL) to see off AFC Wimbledon on Saturday. The visitors have won just one of their last 11 away in all competitions. The team in the greatest form over the last few games are Hartlepool who after a painful start are really clicking into gear. In their last two league games they have hit seven goals away from home in comfortably seeing off sides in the play-off slots (Mansfield and Exeter). I like the look of them then at 6/5 (BETVICTOR) to see off Plymouth who have to make the long journey from the South West to the North East. Argyle have already lost four of their last five and a red-hot Hartlepool can punish them here.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Carlisle +0.5 on Asian Handicap v Oldham, 20/19 (BETVICTOR)
SILVER: Hartlepool to beat Plymouth, 6/5 (BETVICTOR)
BRONZE: Andrew Crofts to score at anytime v Yeovil, 9/1 (888 SPORT/unibet)
